I'd love to know what the definition of "Basic facilities including shelter for spectators" is because most ovals do not qualify

Marbles,

And hopefully you will see within the next few years a new and improved shelter for supporters. I understand that it is not at the same standard as other clubs but hopefully it will improve.

Hunter Park is a great place to play and watch footy. With a good crowd on the weekend, I have no doubt the atmosphere will be fantastic and I can't wait to see a great contest. I doubt too many of the Portland lads will be complaining about having to make the drive up Port Road to play come Saturday.

True, the playing surface is not the best in the Amateur League but its not that bad considering it would be one of the only grounds in the league without irrigation. It has taken a massive effort by a handful of individuals at the club to keep the from dying altogether the summer.

I also know that the club is very serious about improving its facilities over time- never easy for a small club to do but they have already made significant investments at the ground and intend to make further investments in the future...

It has only been in the past 5-6 years that they have managed to get one or two games there each year. The school and club have an agreement to play football at the school annually. Also if you have visited Hunter Park this year, you can see that the club is making a consensus effort to try and improve the facilities. They recognised that the oval and facilities were not in good shape and have been working hard to try and improve them. They are also in the process of trying to improve the playing surface as well. Hunter Park will be OIFC home ground for at least the next 5 years......

Anyway, the fact they finish 2nd gives them the option of hosting a final (remembering clubs do have to pay money to the SAAFL) to host them a final. And as FC wrote, this has been the wettest season for a while and all ovals are in terrible condition. So everyone get over it.

FWIW, Iggies to win by 15 points.

I wasn't having a crack at Old Iggies, or hunter park when i brought this up, just would've thought that it would make sense for Old Ignations to play at the school, and would've thought that the players would've enjoyed it too...

Well played Jimmy. For once PAC have been competitive in school footy. What did they do give all there good players Free schooling and Uniforms. Probably added in some pocket money for the weekend as well!!!!
From memory St Micks have been a powerhouse in school footy along with SHOC for a while now. When you start to put Decades of success together then maybe you may have the right to get on here and slag.

was at the game! thought pac were just too good. Had some solid players in the side and there captain Day was head and shoulders above anyone else on the ground. They were actually harder at the ball. Some St micks lads just wanted to fight. And did not attack the ball. Only bad part on the night was the supporting of the pac students. Looks like all there parents are spending great amounts of money to learn to swear and act like jerks.

Pac won it 2 years ago. but very true before that had not won it for a number of years.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Well, then your memory is flawed pal and interesting you try to compare the school with Sacred Heart - not even in the same stratosphere

Will be good to see what happens at the oval then. Any pre concieved thoughts on what you aguys will be doing there. How do you guys generate funds etc. Maybe a stupid question knowing you have sponsors like all clubs but a refit on any level is expensive. We did have help form the council ofcourse and they did an awesome job with it. Non biast but its one of the better facilities in the league if you take away the fact that there are no major pubs or pokies etc attached to the building. Agreed Hunter Park could probably be the better grounds to go play and watch footy when its done. What is it you have done so far? Not trying to besmrt but you said taht tehre has been alterations and the like done already? And yes we dont mind coming up Port Rd to play and its not an issue. By Saturday morning we would have all had our Doll forms in and cashed up. Most of us will have the goon bags and run across to maccas for nutrition. ;)

A's

Old Iggies over Portland - 10 goals - OI to strong at home
Mitcham over CBC - 6 Goals - Hawks in real good form... if we can get over the first hurdle...We'd love the opportunity to kick portland out in straight sets on their own homedeck!

B's

Smosh over Seaton - 3 goals
Mitcham over Old Iggies - 8 goals

Congratulations to PAC
Heard they were to good, were a team full of men that wanted the game more.
Good work to St Micks aswell, would be the most successful school in the state for footy that doesnt offer scholarships or have borders.

I dont think any school could be compared to Sacred Heart, they are out and out the best footballing school.
PAC and St Peters have started to step it up in last few years from offering more scholarships, or so it is said.

probably the best 6 schools in the state for school footy would have to be
Sacred heart
PAC
St Peters
Rostrevor
St Micks
Henley
think it is a credit that henley and st micks are so competative when being so close and one being a public school. ( i know PAC and St Peters are close aswell, but they also get borders)
get on board the thunder train!!!

Knowing those SMC kids most of them would have taken no footy on Saturday as a perfect opportunity to play club on sunday. Resting the kids on saturday prolly made it worse for them, not better.

SMOSH will be looking to get one back this Sunday when they take on PAOC in the C6 qualifying final; arguably just as, if not more prestigious than the knock-out cup final.

Guys, do you want me to make a separate thread for school footy? Don't clog up the div 3 thread with it..

I always wondered why there wasn't a school footy forum and assumed it was cause a school forum would naturally attract 15 year olds and every thread would turn to a slanging match.

Given that it was between two schools who are both represented by Old Schollar sides IN DIVISION 3, I would have thought it was quite relevant?

Hence I posted it here.

Anyway, I wasn't slagging off the school but the decision to forfeit

The games was almost scary with respect to the standard with some absolutely brilliant passages of play through the ground from both sides

And Norwood Oval  Obviously has had the roof shut for the past month - no mud at all although there must be some funny patches of grass because some of the ways the bounced were just incredible

Might be a stupid question but has there been any thouhgt to other SANFL grounds to host SAAFL finals. Speaking of Norwood oval. Especially DIV 3 where that could possibly be a neautral ground. Would be awesome to play there and to watch. I havent played or been there for a few years now. Loved the facilities and the oval itself would suit. I know Alberton is used aswell as Thebby but if no one can supply or the league cant source suitable even gorunds that are centralised might be a better plan. I dont know im going on a bit. Just thought with the talk on Norwood oval it would be a great place to play a final.

and if you had played Rostrevor , SHC or st peters it would have been the same as all schools and planned and agreed to do so.
