Hey Trinity, I rekon if you're boys could get back some of the good players it's produced over the last 10 years, you'd have a bloody good side.

Kinnear, King, whistons, walton, bajcic, soteriou, rowlands, slade, commane, shell, white, officer.

I rekon they all went through central districts.

Totally agree! Unfortunately for Old Scholars side there are many country clubs willing to pay these young guns the $$$$$ to play! Also too we are still very new side so only just really becoming known to the 1st and 2nd 18's. Most of the boys Playing for us now are old scholars, but country clubs/centrals have more then likely been scouting some of those boys since they were 15????? So although they are made to play for the school while they are students unfortunately this rule doesnt apply when they leave school! But how good would it be for the Old Scholars side if we could make it a rule

Country clubs / Centrals are offering the $$$$$ so why are they going to stick with there school when they can get paid to play!

i think you know the answer to that question! Start offering a bit of $$$. Plenty of collrge sides pay players. Doesn't haVE to be much.

TRINITY DO NOT PAY ANY PLAYERS!

Yeh as if they are going to play for Trinity Old Scholars over playing for Centrals? Dont think school pride runs that deep no matter how much we offered them! In years to come the best i think you can hope for is that when they are no longer playing at league level they want to come back to the old scholars side!
As for playing country or playing at other clubs you have to remember the Old scholars have only been started 2 years ago, this being their 3rd season, so some of the boys at the school now have been playing with SAAFL clubs as well as the school since they were Juniors (U6's/U8's) so they also have dedications to these clubs and mates they have played with for many years! Trinity OS in time will hopefully be more well know to some of the younger boys at the school so they may consider following on their footy with the Old Scholars!

Good luck with that. Houghton were formerly Banksia Park OS. I went to Banksia and didn't have a clue til I started playing at Houghton that they were actually the BPOS. Don't think many at Banksia would know, and our clubs been around for 25 years! We struggle with the same sort of problems that you mentioned (kids play for other clubs through juniors and stay with that club in to seniors etc etc.) So, yeah. Good luck!
Oh and 1 more thing. Houghton doesn't pay players either, which is something which I think makes the club stronger in one respect. I have played at another club in a much higher div who pay players (as they have to to be competitive at that level) and it creates an uneasy environment when a new highly payed player comes to the club. Even though the payed player may be a top bloke, there is always that question as to whether they would have anything to do with the club if they weren't being payed. That's why I love playing at Houghton, all the boys out on the park see each other as equals and there are no doubts about why anyone is out there, just to enjoy playing footy and spending time with a good bunch of blokes (and ladies too). Unfortunately, I don't think clubs like Houghton can keep this up in the long run as it seems the way of the world is that everybody bows to the almighty dollar!! Like it or not I think every club will need to pay their top players, maybe not much but definately something, just to ensure their survival. It really sucks, but I think it's unavoidable. You can't coax good players to your club by simply showing them the quality of people there and proving that they will enjoy playing footy there. Nobody cares about good times and good people anymore, it's all about the money!! AND IT SUCKS!!!

Couldnt agree with you more!
Unfortunately money talks! The clubs with money will go higher and higher. Kids now see $$$$$ and if their good thats what they want! Cant blame them i guess footy isnt what it used to be. And if your good there are plenty of clubs out there willing to pay!

I agree with paying no one at a club creates a much better atmosphere among the boys everyone is more on an equal playing field and at least you know your team mates are there cause they want to be but i dont know how long this last unless non paying clubs want to keep sitting in the lower divisions. Lets face it kids now want money and mateship doesnt speak as loud as $$$$. If smaller clubs are paying all there top players and not collecting subs form all these paid players how does a club survive also how does that make others that still have to pay their subs feel? In a small club i can see this causing many problems. Guess thats the joy of being a smaller or OS side! Its much easier for clubs that have (U6's/U8's,U9's/U10's/U11's/U12's/U13's/U14's/U15's/U17's) to pay players when they would be collecting at least $16,000.00 from these juniors in subs! Old scholars sides unfortunately are never going to have juniors!

Oh well thats life and thats footy! Tomorrow beating Brahma Lodge is my concern right now!

My footy playing career is over so money is not a problem for me! As long as they keep paying coaches im happy!
