I had the pleasure in watching 2 great games of football down at the Modbury FC yesterday, both games had everything hard hits, great skill, excellent goals and high flyers. In the C's this game could have been won by either team right till the final siren it was true grass roots football. You witnessed two battles yesterday both on field 1 between the players the other between the umpires!! IMO the GG umpire was openly cheating and was happy to do so (why, not sure?). I do believe he did have an effect on the game as he was able to change momentum!! In the last two minutes of the game a ball was clearly over for a point then came back into play and a goal for GG was the result, in which the goal umpire laughed at the Modbury fullback!! Not sure why people in their position do such low acts it just ruins a good game.. Any chance they where father and son?

The GG C Grade umpire is renown for his bias amongst other teams in this Division. I can only speculate the team needs a helping hand week to week. But what can you do when someone is morally bankrupt.

Incorrect but hey why let the truth get in the way of a good story. Our D grade umpire is the umpire that has been brought into question in the past, and IMO rightly so. Our C grade ump has been doing this for two seasons now and is by now way a cheat. IMO this game was poorly umpired by both guys, they let obvious frees go and paid crap soft ones. As for comments from goal umps, Modburys goal ump turned to a guy from our team and told him to get f**ked and flipped the bird as he had another sip from his red can!

Modbury D grade are one game away from losing control of players, constant hits behind play from players will cost them games and this side will not win the GF in this grade. If they just played the ball instead of swinging arms they would be a far better side. Amateur umps will pull them up all day, saw slow blokes swinging at Gepps Cross last year and look what happened. Before anyone disagrees, their coach came up to ours after the game and apologised for what happened on the field. Hats off to the guy who belted one of our guys for manning up and coming into our changeroom after the game to apologise. They are a good side if they can contro a few because that cost them goals against us, we are second to bottom so and we lost by just three goals, a better side will beat them come finals IMO. Don't get me wrong, there was guys that were just hard at the ball and body, no problem with that, that's the game, it's sneaky hits behind play when you can't keep up that will cost them.

Notice how umps are cheats when you lose but not when you win, strange that..

Should clarify, with club umps we are all guilty of claiming umps cost us games before we look at our own shortcomings that cost us games. No doubt there are umps that favour their own side, but I think that at the end of the season this comes unstuck when there are neautral umps appointed. In a perfect world there would be neautral umps at all games but that isn't going to happen so we all need to go with what we get.

To be completely honest I have played one season with our C grade umpire, and I never found him biased towards us at all, this was last year. You have played one game. Did he have a bad game against you I have no idea, I wasn't there. My point is had you won you wouldn't have even mentioned it five weeks later because you wouldn't remember. Seriously I don't think any guy who umpires actually gets up on a Saturday and says I'm going to cheat today. Maybe one guy is better than the other, our umps are not really even that into our club, hardly see them there so can't see what they would get out of cheating. I just think cheat is not the word that describes ours is all.

For the 2nd time, It has nothing to do if we had won or not, I'm just agreeing with 2 other recent poster's opinions about your ump. Hence why I'm posting now not 5 weeks ago.

Understand that, I am saying more in general that all of us look for someone to blame when we lose the close ones and the umps are usually first to cop the blame. You said this wasn't what you were referring to so let's move on.

League bench warmer,

Your C grade umpire is GG club man through and through he umpires your cricket as well!!! So don't bullsh#t the rest of us.... As I said great game of footy could of gone either way, just not sure why your umpire thinks he needs to be a wanker and cheat. Doesn't do anything for the game & clearly its not just me that thinks it!
We lost all good, by u defending him you obviously didn't see the game or have no morals or you might be his son or daughter or maybe even wife either way (poor form)!!

I'll assume you are talking to me here, I have no idea if he umpire cricket, nor do I care, I don't follow our cricket. Just because he does says so much about how much he loves the club and thinks hmmmm, how can I cheat today to help the club I love so much win a C grade premiership

I am not his son, wife or any relation, to be honest cant tell you what his first name is. Pointing out that others think he is a "cheat" does sweet FA for me, read back over past posts, you are not the first poster to blame umps for you losing a game and you won't be the last, we ALL do it. Especially in games won by less than a couple of kicks. Personally when I play in these games I try and look for the things I could have done to avoid those goals before I look for an umpires decision to blame.

I have no problem with where I sit in my life in regards to my morals, I just think that umpire bashing every time someone losses a game is getting old and tired, you don't like it, umpire yourself. I couldn't and wouldn't do it personally but learnt at vary young age that they are the ones that control the game so I deal with them. Don't get me wrong I have played in games where I have walked off and felt like we have been given the raw deal but what really can I do about it??

I saw the game and both umps were ordinary at best, do I think that it cost anyone a win, no I don't but this is my opinion as a player and maybe I have played enough now to know that it does balance out in the end. I played in our D grade two years back and we had the benefit of this sometimes "biased" umpiring and IMO gave us nothing, no respect from opposition and a false sense of security come finals, we didn't win anything that year. The best team won in the end.

When Club Umpires are seen to show clear bias .....which is usually consistent by the number of Clubs who validate the point (eg GG) The "poor" bugger in question usually does it out of a deliberate sense of loyalty to his Club....rather than understanding the basic rudiments of game and at least exercising some objectivity as the league expects of him in the role of an umpire. Unless of course he enjoys deliberately being p#*^k each Saturday.
The whole point is academic if (a) you can't get an Umpire's official to watch more than one game where he's involved to assess his suitability to get him "boosted", or have independent umpires assigned to the lower grade games. Everyone knows what the problem is......but no one has a working solution that can be implemented. Doubt we will see it in our life time but what the hell, we all have to vent our spleens occasionally.

Agree, also our c grade guy has done for probably a total of 20-25 games now (as far as I'm aware) and I played in these games last season and thought he leaned more towards the other side but I can't really say how he is from a players point of view this season. Personally I just don't think the cheat tag fits is all my point, but only my opinion.

Shows what you know pin head. We have no association to the cricket club AT ALL.
If we're going to talk umpires lets talk about your D grade umpire who is the most scared little old man going around. Will not pay a free kick against anyone from Modbury for fear they may wait for him in the carpark after the game with the rest of his bikie mates !! If you're going to talk about bad umpires have a look at yourself first pal.

It's Div 8 football. If anyone can find me a decent umpire I'll be very surprised.....

Choccies lets keep it civil! How did you go against our 301 gamer G Beveridge? When the game was there to be won or lost did you stand up and ensure he was kept goal less? Please enlighten us.

Sorry Choc have to pull you up on this.
Our D grade umpire deserves far more respect than what you have shown. The facts are he is a life member of MFC, a former long serving club president (a very popular one at that), Saturday night cook, still the oval line marker, club cleaner oh and the small fact that he has as of this year umpired over 500 games of football. Respect where respect is due my friend!
Similarly respect to Wayne for volunteering his time at GG not just in umpiring but no doubt in other aspects of your club. I know Wayne and he is not a bloke that would like to be questioned, he may have paid a few dubious ones and when questioned would love paying more/not paying free kicks….. just like many club umpires.
Will add some more spice to next time the 2 clubs meet
