It probably hasn't been helped by the fact full time jobs are becoming less and less common especially in a lot of the industries 18-25 year olds are working

You get injured now or can't work Monday and that costs $100 plus dollars with no sick leave to be taken etc src

I think also that many moons ago the expected level of fitness you played with was lower, as you said you haven't played injury free in ten plus years, this also changes from sport to sport. I reckon a chart of what a player believe his fitness, injury free level should be for each sport would be something like:

Cricket- 95% fit or else a bloke will pull out
Soccer- 90% fit or else a lot these pansies won't play lol
Football- 80% fit or else they need a week off
Rugby- 50% fit, you simply don't miss games through injury... Broken ribs strap them and play

Years ago you needed to train two nights a week to just play "B" Grade, let alone "A" Grade!!

Exactly but years ago a lot of people worked Monday-Friday 9-5 as well, a lot of people were employees full time, it use to be acceptable to hobble around work on Monday and Tuesday because of soreness, these days a lot of employees wouldn't accept that and would be worried your going to make a compo claim

The world has changed

Woodville South will win the B grade flag, and comfortably.

A grade im still not sold on them, but they still get the job done week to week so you have to hand it to them. The strength they have as a club is they have an abundance of B graders who can cover any injury/unavailability's in the A grade, which will hold them in good stead come finals time. Having the luxury of having a player of the calibre of McNeill come back through the B grade is a good spot to be in..

Agreed. Best side I've seen this year although West Croyden severely under strength when we played them.

Playing a 19 man flood this week (I am including the runner).

That's if we get 19. Half the squad are going to Splendour in the Grass to get in touch with their feminine side.

Longgg way off mate. We'll get pummeled this week which will drop our % underneath both yourselves and Ingle Farm. Then Adelaide Lutheran are on fire in the magoos - that's a 50/50 game. Final round is against West Croyden who would be ensuring people are qualified and will likely have a dominant side as well.

We could (and maybe even will) lose all three games on the run home and by big margins to WS and WC.

3rd, 4th and 5th still very much up for grabs.

Mitchell Park are a certainty for finals - lock it in. You could get away with not winning another game and scrape in.

Forfeit is only a 10 goal loss. I wish I took that option Saturday. We actually played and competed well but lost by 20 goals still and our valuable % copped a hiding

hahahaha yeah yeah. Just putting into perspective that this week will get ugly for us and finals are a long way off.

Might even strap up my freshly reconstructed knee and sit on the pine.

Hmmmmm. Would take a 60 point loss as of right now.

... but still, bit unfair on Woodville - and Trinity/Brahma/Ingle Farm. We'll rock up with a full side. Some of them might be fat, old, injured or unco. And many a mixture of all of that. But we will rock up and fight it out. We're used to being on the wrong end of a flogging at Parkies.

Robbie Allen has played a cutla games. Hendo has been caretaker coach the last couple of games and has been playing so that also counts.

D6 Ladder after Round 15:
29 - West Croydon
26 - Woodville South - 61.21%
24 - Ingle Farm - 53.83 (-7.38)
20 - Brahma Lodge - 55.30 (+1.47)
10 - Mawson Lakes - 45.13%
----------------------------------------
10 - Fitzroy - 42.49 (-2.64)
09 - Trinity OS - 50.00 (+4.87)
08 - Mitchell Park - 43.81 (-1.32)
08 - Houghton Districts - 40.81 (-4.32)
06 - Adelaide Lutheran - 39.60 (-5.53)

Round 16:
Three rounds to go, and the battle for position is really heating up - battles within battles, emerging as we see just 2 wins separate 5th and 10th.
Ingle Farm still have a chance to steal 2nd spot.. Brahma still can steal 3rd.. any of the bottom 6 sides can still make the finals - or end up in the relegation zone.. cracking round of football coming up, lets have a closer look:

West Croydon v Fitzroy: The West Croydon juggernaut rolled on last Saturday, this time a 51 point victory at the country club in the city Houghton. O'Toole responded to his omission from the SAFooty D6 TOTY with a game high 3 goals along with dangerous Wilson. Symonds, Birch and Horsman outstanding all day as the Hawks had to battle hard against the Raiders. Little birdy tells me though, the win came at a cost for the flag fancies, with injures to Sumner and Phillips putting a dent in the Hawks stocks. This week they host Fitzroy, who only weeks ago I had pencilled in for D7 next season, have rocketed back up the ladder and into finals contention. Wheadon proving a revelation for their return to form, the young forward picked up 7 majors at the weekend as he combined with Avery, MacKinnon and Makris to drive a stake firmly into the heart of the Adelaide Lutheran hearts. The challenges don't get much bigger this week though, and the Roys will need to find something special to upset the Hawks, but it is the time of the season for upsets.. Percentage will be key in this encounter - the Lions will be looking to get as close as possible if they cant win. Will the Hawks take their foot off the gas for a moment? Can the Roys do the unthinkable?

Mawson Lakes v Houghton Districts: Arguably one of the matches of the round, the Lakes host fellow finals hopeful Houghton in a must win clash for both sides. At the weekend the Mozzies ventured out to face final bound Ingle Farm at Rowe Park, and were able to stay in the clash for most of the game before the class from the Farmers blew the match out. Ralph up forward with Carr was a potent combination and Bennett across half forward proved a difficult match up. Ung fed off McCammon all day, but the Lakes lacked depth and polish - they looked a bit understrength from earlier in the season, and it took its toll on the scoreboard. Houghton not dissimilar at the weekend, hosted the Mighty Hawks, and whilst they matched them earlier, they couldn't sustain and ended up 51 point losers - still a remarkable improvement on their first encounter when the Hawks kicked 31 goals and won by 165pts. Spread of goal kickers for the Raiders with no multiples, and Davis, Bray led the charge with McMurtrie continuing his outstanding season. A win here for Mawson Lakes would almost all but secure that 5th spot on the ladder depending on other results - a loss and a win for the Raiders opens up their chances and sets up and intriguing battle over the next two weeks. Mawson Lakes for me have a fraction too much class, and should get the job done - just.

Woodville South v Mitchell Park: If West Croydon is the hardest test in this div, then Woody South would be a very close 2nd. The Cats have hardly put a foot wrong this year as they look to secure a top 2 finish and set up a shot at a return to D5. Last week was a journey out to Trinity to face the Jekyll and Hyde outfit of TOS, and whilst not convincing managed to lock away 2pts. Ahmed led the charge with 5 majors as Hains, McCulloch and Gosling had big days for the Cats. This week they host the resurgent Mitchell Park, who couldn't stop the damaging Aloisi and Brooks, as they fell to finals bound Brahma by 37 points. Halime once again showed his class with 4 goals, as Zerna, Walczak and Pike also continued strong seasons. They'll be hoping to get Bamford back for this clash, and they'll need to be at their best to topple the mighty Cats, but the Lions have shown at times they are more than capable. They're currently the side best positioned to challenge for 5th spot, with their percentage being not far off - regardless of result the Lions will need to fight hard for 4 quarters to limit any damage to that percentage, if not win.

Adelaide Lutheran v Trinity OS: Adelaide Lutheran languishing at the bottom of the ladder, and it looks a long way back for the Dogs. Over the coming weeks they face sides desperate to play finals and eager for wins. They'll need to be at their best to impact on those games and avoid relegation. Elms did his best Saturday to get his side up with 5 goals in a best afield performance. McFarlane and Richter were solid while Fin Borgas's return from injury yielded instant results and showed how much they've missed him. A 6 goal to 3 2nd quarter lost if for Luthies and they'll want to be better this week as they host the Jekyll and Hyde of TOS. Trinity OS this season have shown when on and playing well can match it with the best - a draw to West Croydon, close loses to the top sides.. and then have shown they are susceptible against the lower sides in matches they must win. Spurr with 6 goals on Saturday did the best he could to get his beloved TOS the points, and along with O'Hara, Peters, MacPhail and Maher rounded out the best. The ability is there for the Lions if they can fire, it's just a matter of what TOS shows up on the day. If Adelaide Lutheran can stop MacPhail getting out the back, keep Maher quiet and find match ups for the big forwards of Cotter and O'Hara as well as the smaller quicker forwards of Perry and Burne then they may be a chance.. but I'm not sure they have the cattle to match up with TOS and the Lions should bounce back into the winners circle here.

Brahma Lodge v Ingle Farm: Saved for last, this to me is the match of the round. So much at stake for both sides, Ingle Farm would be keeping a close eye on Woody South, and a win here sets up a mouth watering Rd 18 clash for 2nd place.. Brahma Lodge likewise would be eager to leap frog the Farmers, and if they can beat them Sat with a superior percentage it could come down to Rd 18 as to who secures the double chance. Brahma ventured to Mitchell Park at the weekend and it was Aloisi (6 goals) and Brooks (5 goals) who did the damage up forward, as Spriggs responded to recent negative media attention with a strong performance, supported by Taylor who earned a much deserved call up from the B grade and Cosenza wound back the clock. Tyson Lees proving a handy recruit this season, in just his second season of footy has worked his way up the grades and into the best. For Ingle Farm, they did what was required at the weekend, in front of a home crowd of past players, the Farmers honoured champions of yesteryear with a comprehensive four quarter effort against the lakes. With the margin swaying around 3 goals for most of the game, the dogs found an extra gear in the last and roared away to a 46 point win. Sanderson with 4 goals firmly made a statement with his performance, and has me seeing him in a different light this week, after last week stating he was just a serviceable player. Sandery enjoyed his call up from the B grade. Huge game this weekend, sides will approach this as their first final for the year, and two sides that like to score freely this could be an epic shootout. Winner finishes top 3.. loses plays elimination final.

D6R Ladder after Round 15:
28 - Woodville South - 75.38%
28 - West Croydon - 73.76 (-1.62)
20 - Brahma Lodge - 63.05%
20 - Mitchell Park - 57.97 (-5.08)
18 - Ingle Farm - 57.42 (-5.63)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
16 - Trinity OS - 56.76 (-6.29)
14 - Adelaide Lutheran - 50.02 (-13.03)
02 - Fitzroy
02 - Mawson Lakes
02 - Houghton Districts

Round 16:
Brahma Lodge v Ingle Farm: Interesting clash out at Brahma Lodge this week, the Tigers return home after failing to secure the points against the fast finishing Mitchell Park, succumbing to the Lions by 3 goals. Nelson showed a trip to Bali didn't affect his ability to play footy as he led the charge with 2 goals, while Carter and Smith where best on. Good to see Burchall playing good footy in the B grade as well. No Lehman for Brahma hindered their chances, but they'll be glad to have that road trip out the way and focus back again on finals. They host Ingle Farm this week who remain in a log jam for the 5, and appear the most likely to miss given their poor percentage and difficult run home. This match is the second last in a difficult block of 5 which has seen them face the top 4 sides away from home. Although victorious at the weekend over the struggling Mawson Lakes, the margin (or lack thereof) compared to other sides shows they're still well off the pace. Brahma have too many match winners at the moment despite changes, Smith will be tough to stop, as will Corbett, and the Tigers should cruise to victory in a canter in this match.

West Croydon v Fitzroy: 33 goals for the Hawks, they continue to score heavily against sides. Malupo with 6 enjoyed having Campbell back in the lineup from the A grade, as everyone cashed in with goals and bags of them for the Hawks. Ruthless from start to finish, headed by Malupo, Towns and Watkins - the Hawks just have too much class around the park. This week they host Fitzroy and former coach Arch, who went down to Adelaide Lutheran by 10 goals at the weekend. Dudek and Bugeja were best for the Roys who unfortunately couldn't contain Hodges or Clarke. Enjoying a greater availability of players which then means greater stability and consistency, the Roys will be optimistic heading into this match - unfortunately though they run into a side hell bent on claiming top spot and in a fierce battle with Woody South for the week off. Percentage the key, and the Hawks will be hunting plenty of it.. could be another massive blowout.

Mawson Lakes v Houghton Districts: Interesting clash between two sides who've struggled this year. Both have suffered heavy defeats and are limping to seasons end. Mawson Lakes at the weekend showed glimpses of competitiveness against Ingle Farm, led by the icon Rae with Nguyen and Schrader and whilst still have some smart footballers, unfortunately are a step behind the rest. Houghton will be eager to put a disaster day behind them, as they were on the end of a 204 point thumping at home. Oswald the only goal kicker with 2, while Sebastian and Rogers tried hard in a very tough day. Both these sides will be pumped to face each other, a match that looks far more even on paper and should be played out that way. A win would be highly rewarding for a tough season, but I fancy Mawson Lakes marginal favs in this match.

Woodville South v Mitchell Park:Woody South sit a top of the premiership ladder - just - on percentage, and will be eager to build that gap on West Croydon with another big performance this week. McNeil returned to football and collected 9 goals, along with Skewes 4 as the class and depth of the Cats shone through, giving last seasons premiers an almighty thumping. They host Mitchell Park, who are firming as favourites for the finals after a recent run of form. The Lions have now beaten all other contenders for the finals spots, and are looking dangerous. Wilson up forward is arguably the best small forward in the div, and he picked up 4 more goals at the weekend. Gates and Logan outstanding, the Lions have a lot of speed around the ground, and McBride in the ruck is mighty indeed! Whilst they'll talk down their chances this week, Mitchell Park should be full of confidence heading into this match, and hold comfort in the fact they hold a game break and percentage on the sides below them. Woody South should collect the points - but don't underestimated morells meadow.

Adelaide Lutheran v Trinity OS: Luthies are making a late charge for the 5. Having been largely unsighted for most of the season, the Dogs have flown back into finals calculations on the back of Hodges up forward. The forward collected another 10 at the weekend, to make his tally 26 is the last 3 games! A chance to take the goal kicking out in the division now, the Dogs will be eager for another big day out as they host Trinity in the parklands. TOS felt the full brunt of the Cats power at the weekend, whilst Bosward, Siciliano and Hill were strong, the depth wasn't there for the Lions and they fell 20 goal victims. They'll be eager to bounce back this week, and a shoot out between Krieg and Hodges should be an interesting clash, as will Siciliano and Clarke. A lot of speed and aggression around the contest, combined with Ebert and Hill providing tall timber, the TOSSERS will be too strong in this match, and will climb a spot on the ladder. With Mawson Lakes in Round 18, Trinity can all but secure the 5th spot in the finals with a win Saturday.
