I am hearing that the new coach is bringing some big sponsors and may look at trying to take a few players from his old club. Houghton will start shorter than Para Hills did this year

To be fair so they should. Not at all disgraced this year in D6 by any stretch.

We lost 100% of our games...

Mate I played for Mitchell Park in 2014. There are degrees to this stuff.

Average losing margin of a bit over 10 goals is far from disgraced. They had a bad block where they lost a few games in a row by 100+ but asides from that they were largely competitive.

as we know, the gap between D6 and D7 is at least 10 goals. If they add a cutla they'll be very strong.

You and I clearly have different ideas about what constitutes "largely competitive".. I like Houghton so don't want to bash them, but here's the facts:

Wins: 0
Highest Score: 81
Highest Score Conceded: 195
Times Conceded 100+ : 12/18
Times conceded 150+ : 8
Average Losing margin: 76 points
Loses by 100+ : 7

Scoring shots: Averaged NINETEEN scoring shots less per game
Reached 19 (or more) scoring shots in a game: 5
Failed to have 10 or more scoring shots on 6 occasions.

What ever type of spin you try and put on it, they got ******* pumped this year. Competitive games came against Mawson Lakes and Fitzroy when they were clearly switched off end of year - and a good effort vs Elizabeth.

May be competitive in D7 but don't try and tell everyone they were "largely competitive in 2017 D6"

Thanks for those facts, those of us at the club wouldn't have known all that, ill just ring Mel and let her know we may as well close up.

Ah don't have a whinge, no good hiding from the facts and you know it wasn't intended to disrespect your club - I just don't understand how some one can say you were "Largely competitive" when clearly, statistically speaking you were not.

Plus those facts were not for you, they were for him.

I've no doubt HFC will be more than competitive in 2018, your best 21 is pretty good, especially if Cam is fit in the ruck for most the year, and i have no doubt the new coach will bring some players to add to the depth. Next year looks bright for the Raiders... but it doesn't change this years results.

Totally agree about this year, cant change the facts on that at all and all we can do is improve. Ill let other blokes judged what happened in 1948 and how that has a bearing on what happens next year.
As for the new coach bringing players, as pointed out by a poster at least they will be used to the 100 point losses lol

I said they weren't disgraced and were largely competitive.

None of the above changes that assertion. Being disgraced to me means forfeits, 40 goal losses, life bans ....

Houghton did none of that and had losses of less than 5 goals 6 times. That's competitive.

Agreed a less than 5 goal loss is competitive.

So in 12 of 18 games they were uncompetitive.

6/18 =/= 'largely'

Nah, anything less than 100 points is competitive. As I said, I've played in games where we got belted by 40 goals. Played in sides that had no B Grade.

11/18 = 'largely'

largely
ˈlɑːdʒli/Submit
adverb
to a great extent; on the whole; mostly.

morell wrote:11/18 = 'largely'

61% does not equal largely.. infact 61% is barely a pass mark.

If we had a pie to share, and we cut it into two uneven pieces and I said "take the large one" which one would you take?
