Interesting
They certainly haven’t started the year well compared to last year
They didn’t lose many if any of their better players did they after the GF loss?
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

From the Grand Final side.....

Bielby, Haren, Kelly-Mansell, Kennett, Matchett, Schwarze. McMahon has done his achilles. Wundke has come back to help out.

Glenunga coach Alex Guy fired after 2-5 start in division one

A new division one Adelaide Footy League coach has been left surprised and disappointed after being relieved of his duties just seven games into his tenure.

Sitting in seventh on the ladder with a 2-5 record, Glenunga has made the decision to move on from newly-appointed coach Alex Guy just days after a 44-point win over Golden Grove last Saturday.

Guy, who had previously served as a SANFL League assistant at Sturt and as assistant to Nathan Grima when the Rams made last season’s grand final, was appointed to the role after Grima’s decision to step down at the end of 2024.

“The timing certainly came as a surprise coming off the back of a good win on Saturday,” Guy said.

“No doubt we had a tough start to the season from a win-loss perspective but there was a feeling among the group that Saturday’s win could act as a springboard with our next three games after the bye coming against the bottom three sides, before taking on the two sides we’re chasing for a spot in the five.

“Win those and we’re sitting 7-5 and probably not having this conversation.”

Glenunga’s slow start to the season came as a surprise after the club’s two consecutive grand final runs in the top flight and the Rams have also had to overcome a number of player availability challenges to start this season.

Star captain and back-to-back Keith Sims OAM Medallist Abe Davis has returned from knee surgery, while Michael McMahon, Fletcher Wisman and Cormac Dwyer have all been hit with season-ending injuries.

Guy believed his side’s performance amid the injury bug had still been positive despite the five losses.

“Despite some injury and player availability issues, we’ve been in every game deep into the third quarter,” he said.

“As I reminded the boys leading into the weekend, despite a couple fourth quarter fade outs against SPOC and SHOC, we strung together some good patches in that three-week period where we played each of the top three teams.

“While disappointed I wasn’t afforded the opportunity to have an extended run at it, I wish the boys well for the remainder of the season and beyond.”

Glenunga will now go through the process of finding a new coach ahead of its round eight clash with Broadview.

The Rams currently sit one win and percentage above the relegation zone and three wins outside of the top five.

The club told this masthead it felt the time was right to move on from Guy.

“We acknowledge and severely thank Alex for his significant contribution to the club.

“It was determined that given the current stage of the season and the upcoming bye, it was an appropriate time to part ways.

“A recruitment process is now underway to identify a replacement.”

Thought it was verrry unusual that at 1/4 time of the PD game, Davis went straight for a pretty animated conversation with Grima before the line groups.

Any odds on the rigorous recruiting search coming up with Grima as the best possible candidate.....?

He didn’t get the job done last year with a better squad so why would they go back there?

He stepped down, they didn't get rid of him.

Who knows, maybe he's had a change of heart.

Seems an unusual time to be recruiting a new coach, unless of course you've already got one in your pocket.

Yeah I know he left but he still didn’t get the job done so I can’t see why they’d go backwards

7 games into a season with 3 x season ending injuries, and your best player coming back from injury. Next three games against the three bottom sides. What a ridiculous decision.

Win next 3, go 5-5 and it becomes very hard to move a coach on.. obviously more to it than just losing games early on.

Oh well, we will welcome AG to Ingle Farm next season :D

Whatever the reason for parting company with AG, you'd just hope that Glenunga have been open with him about the reason/s why.

Maybe if Athelstone had done that with him, he might not be having issues now.
