Don't apologise mate, that was bloody hilarious!

Reminds me of a night when I was watching Speedway on the TV and they were displaying sponsors names on the screen. Virginia Hair (I assume a hairdresser in Virginia) was advertising and it was on the screen as "Vagina Hair".

Someone was having a laugh that day.

Just browsing the Henley F/C site & interesting to read Henley were given the rights to cater the finals at Theberton oval.
Why is that so?
I would of thought its the perfect opportunity for the Amatuer League to make a big financial gain.
Other than the entrance fee into the ground which the league gets, it seems the preferential treatment Henley received is very unfair on the rest of the clubs.
By the sounds of it Henley has benefited big time financially from this & i can see this opening up a   can of worms with the other clubs.
Wouldn't it be better to distribute the profits to all clubs, providing they all have volunteers contributing on the most important day of the year, other than hand feeding one?
After all, its tough enough as it is, for all clubs these days to keep there heads above water & record profits.

I was of the understanding that the rights to catering were to be tendered, so if that was the case and Henley were the successful club, then good on 'em.

If this wasn't the case then it's quite understandable to be asking questions.

However I don't agree with the sharing the load thing, because it's hard enough to find volunteers to man BBQ's and bars etc. at normal home games, let alone having to find extras to cover another ground!

It would be good to get the background behind that decision FB.

I tend to agree that the SAAFL could have either catered for it themselves, or put it out to tender for the clubs.

Hats off to Henley for obviously taking the initiative and getting in first, but if the situation comes up again this year without a transparent tender system, then I would expect that the other clubs won't be too impressed if the same thing happens again!!

But FC, for two week-ends work surely you'd have every clubs die hard volunteers, jumping out of there skin to contribute, when they know the financial gain thats available at the end of the day.
Some of the clubs today wouldn't make the money thats available from these two week ends, playing 9 home games in the year.
Every club should learn from this & vote for a better system that benifits all clubs in 2008.
Those that don't want to participate, leave your hands in your pockets & don't expect any hand outs.
What you will see this year is Henley doing what Salis Nth has done in previous years.
Trying to buy a flag.

Salisbury North heard to lose quite a few players along with Broadview, rocs in the same boat too!

Goodwood Saints, Henley seemed to be the frontrunners this year, Saints havent really lost anyone at all and henley picked up a few

Don't forget Gaza, they'll be around the mark.
But then again, whats the use of being around the mark.
when you can't win finals!!!

yep, but we are happy to let the other clubs do the talking pre-season and underestimate us like last year!! ha ha

Seriously though, not a whole heap of changes. More-so consolidating the core group of young players that performed well last year and now have a season of div 1 under their belts as well as an off season in the gym.

apparently last year a couple of players didn't do the pre-season and rocked up a couple of weeks before the first game and played a's all year! from what i heard it put a few blokes noses out of joint, who had done the hard yards! a few players are still holding a grudge i believe.

i wonder if it will happen again this year??

I believe it'll be a tougher assignment in 2008 for the Gullies,
Last year they jumped sides early, as alot of sides didn't know much about them. Then once sides worked them out, alot went missing,Especially finals time.

It was a big year for the gullies last year, no doubt. To finish third in the minor rounds was great, but it doesn't mean a whole heap if you get bundled out in straight sets come finals time.

This year, as NM alluded to, teams will be aware of the running ability and game style of TTG, but they still have to catch us!! ha ha. Nah serioulsy, I think this year will be a big test for a lot of sides, us included.

Obviously a premiership is the ultimate aim, but I will be happy to consolidate on the win loss ratio from last year and ensure that some more wins come in the finals series.

Already we are taking steps towards that, such as the manner in which the pre-season training is being structured. It is no great secret that we may have peaked too early last year, but that shouldn't be the case again this year. I think the bodies of the younger guys will be bigger, as will their confidence after proving to themselves that they can mix it with the big guys.

Don't you think its time for Pascoe to retire?
Its just another area where the Gullies can improve next year.
Pascoe's been a good player in his day at Salis Nth & T T Gully, but his days are over.
He may have height & size in his favour, but his age & weight is a disadvantage in todays game at A1 level.
No disrespect to the bloke, but a young lad with pace, height & good hands would be what i'd be working with.

You raise some good points NM. But I reckon if he can stay on the ground all year he would be worth 50 - 70 goals to TTG and I think that would be worth keeping him.

I'm not sure how old he is but I do know he is very hard to man up. Having him at full forward would allow that young lad with pace, height & good hands to have plenty of freedom in the forward lines. Also Pascoe most likely would have the best defender on him.

I can see the advantage of having Pascoe as far as height goes silent hour, if he was more mobile.
You don't neccessarily need your best defender on him, just someone thats smart enough to play a little of him & get a run & jump at the contested mark. You don't want to try & out body such a big gorilla.
He's not going to beat any-one for pace.I don't think he's the player he was a few years ago & its only going to get harder for him with age & size.
Thats only my assumption tho.
