The hard truth is that if you want to be a coach, then you need to be prepared to move around. You can't stay stagnant in one club for too long, hence the reason most clubs find new coaches after a couple of seasons - need to keep it fresh.
However, I would be suprised if Niven had applied for the position, I was under the belief he has had enough of coaching, not only that but my mail was that Central United had all but secured their new coach for next season...
As for the Ingle Farm comment about next seasons flag, well you probably need a bit better bait if you want to catch something..
