"This is the difference between having money to spend on football and not. It’s that critical. The are other costs savings that I know we can implement here to assist with ensuring there is more cream on the cupcake at the end of the evening as well, but it will take time. The previous Sporting Club committee I would say were almost bordering on being anti Footy, despite the fact we were the main component of their existence. That is changing."

Morell you say that a primary issue you have is that the football club does not receive a fair share of the bar revenue from the Sporting Club, which the football club is the 'main component'. Also, that the Sports Club is almost 'anti footy'.

How does the Football Club let the hand that feed it become 'anti-footy'?
You are the main component of the Sports Club, does this not allow you to assert a degree of control over it? Why haven't you assured significant representation? (obviously I don't know the Sports Clubs make up)
Wouldn't this be an be management issue 101!?

Your juniors are an excellent example.
A couple of years ago they were almost dead, now they are growing significantly. You still have access to the same resources.
The difference is now you have more and better people volunteering and driving it.

Even if the 'gun' Committee are doing an excellent job, that's only enough people to fill the vital bare bones positions of maintaining a football club. As you said you lack human resources. Successful clubs have a large amount of extra people volunteering in other roles. Not saying its easy to get them though.

It used to be anti-footy, of course that is very much just my opinion, they would have denied that. Even now I would say of all the delegates the football club is the one getting the worst deal.

Jetters wrote:How does the Football Club let the hand that feed it become 'anti-footy'?
Sometimes people who you didn't realise might not necessarily have your best interests at heart gain positions of power and create change and difficulties which one couldn't have envisaged.

Jetters wrote:You are the main component of the Sports Club, does this not allow you to assert a degree of control over it? Why haven't you assured significant representation?
Agree. Kylie Weekley was made President of the SC last year. More changes need to be made.
Jetters wrote:Wouldn't this be an be management issue 101!?
Yes, which is why we're trying to fix it!! We can't just oust an entire committee on a whim because we want to.

Jetters wrote:Your juniors are an excellent example.

Another difference is significant growth in young families in the area, some dissatisfaction with neighbour club programs and a change in policies in how we subsidise the program to make it more affordable.

Mark Sansome was running things when it was nearly dead, he is also running it now, so you pretty much just disproved your theory.

Absolutely agree. We have the equivalent of Sandilands, Ablett, Dangerfield and Boak in the guts. But no forwards or backman at all.

You and me both norm. The clashes we had in my lucky time at the helm 2011 and 2012 were classics for grassroots footy. The hours we spent trying to shut down Mickey Gollan I will never forget. I see he's stayed loyal and a classier indigenous young player with great personal qualities you will ever meet. Good luck Owls, you have worked hard to stay alive so don't give in now. You're next win could as soon as next Saturday. ;)

The return of Dutchy ads on field leadership as well, with him and Grogan forward it gives the units the flex to rotate Bain and Woodward in the mid and rest up forward. CU look very dangerous and I was surprised quite frankly as to how young they are. Good platform to build on and showed good discipline too. ;)

Was there any truth to the rumour that Holland had to where Fenwicks jumper on Saturday. :) I do remember when young James used to train with the "A" grade on Thursday night in the warm up when he was about 12 or 13, he has turned out to be a very good football player, but you could see there was something special about him back then.

Dutchy wore 22. Pretty sure it's his reserved number cos his signature was on the front. :D

Millions in undisclosed payments will sink SA amateur clubs, warn football chiefs

"Brown paper bags and football mercenaries threaten to undermine a positive culture built around social inclusion that has served many for a long time,’’ Mr Kernahan said.

"The pair both said they wouldn’t be surprised if payments across the state’s 277 clubs now totalled $20 million."

“What is important here and must be protected at all costs is the social fabric of society that has been built by generations around community sport and football in particular,’’ Mr Kernahan said.

Mr Kernahan said 2014 was proving a tipping point on the issue, and believed most clubs, both city and country, agreed changes were needed.

Mr Kernahan also said Australian Taxation Office clarification should be sought on what constituted a “hobby’’ income in sport.

Yes Yank you are right it is a very young side. Central United made the decision this year to do away the so called trouble and really concentrate on the youth coming through. As I've stated before these lads are Central United juniors and really love the place I think there were about 5 lads under 20 years old and a further 4 or 5 under about 24 years of age in the A grade its Probably only Holland who f@#ks the average age up! ;)

There are also a heap of young lads coming through the B grade

On the discipline side you mention Yank it must be said that sides were very good in this aspect on Saturday. For Mitchell Park it would've been quite easy to start going the biff as we all know its hard getting goal after goal kicked on you, but to your credit the game was played in the right spirits all day that in itself is a credit to Mitchell Park.

Thanks for your kind words on the units but I think it may be a fair effort to make the 5 from here. Lockleys getting that win up over Rosewater wasn't expected (by us anyway!) and you know Fitzroy will come home hard with there list so I doubt the 5 will change much and if it does probably only Fitzroy in??? But who knows a lot of footy to be played yet. We have Mawson Lakes away this week its only a matter of time before they put in a big game and actually all gel together on a day I just hope its not this week. Mawsons and Units have had some good battles of late.

The whole player payments thing is a beat-up and very cyclical. When the next drought comes, the money will dry up.
