Anti-League rants  are you for real?
Tell us Benchwarmer, in the editorial what do you think is unfair that has been published of late?
I believe some don't like the truth but as far as i'm concerned i'd rather read the truths & see the Amateur League respond in the right way & get it right that way our great game won't suffer like it has because of inconsistancies eg umpires.

Agree with NM, the SAAFL budget is nothing more than a fluff piece every time with a few pictures no paid advertsing and just league sponsors. Hosies mag has been great for the club especially our 1969 reunion with the members of the side making sure that they kept a copy of it. You cant do that with the web based rubbish. 26 pages of goal kickers must have been a bit short of info this week. Even one of the SAAFL executives was disappointed by it when I spoke to him, they said a write up of all finals games would have been better.

Just wish Shadiac would concede and let Hosie do the leagues mag. Definately a better read and an honest editorial of whats going on in the league and whats wrong with it as a good editorial should be not FLUFF and WARM & FUZZY crap the league write

At least those of us who support a club lower than D2 get to read a commentary on our games other than the 4,852 goalkickers or 1.30 minutes on 5RPH whilst they spend the first 30 minutes talking about anything but amateur football.

To be perfectly honest, I would rather the Footy Budget remain totally independant from the League. At least we get to read a commentary on the issues that the clubs are concerned about, and those of us who volunteer to write, get a gig. I would never have seen myself writing a column until Hosie called me, and kept badgering me, to write my piece. Not because he was going to make money out it, but because people told him they wanted a "Where are they now" segement.

Like him or hate him, he got off his a$$ and created the first complete magazine for all amateur league supporters when the League told him it wouldn't work. I read the commentary on every game and have a laugh at the subtle innuendos that appear every week. All that would be lost if it went "official" and we, the punters, would be the loser.....

I'd much rather read an editorial about a player reaching a milestone or club record, or a player overcoming an adversity to play.

We all know umpires are inconsistent - I have seen footy played at various levels in all six states and they are either good, bad or pathetic (not many in the first category I must say, the majority being between good and bad and I've seen a number who are obviously waiting for the post game envelope to come their way!). It is an age-old problem and one that concievably cannot be fixed and I don't think anyone can come up with a solution as our game is highly interpretative compared to other sports, therefore in 2059 they will be wondering why umpires cannot get it right just like they were in 1959.

I really enjoy pieces like the ANZAC articles that have been done and I would like more stories like that than "umpires are crap" pieces (they are at AFL level most of the time, especially against my team LOL), because stories about things like bad umpires are most as inspiring and they don't do anything to solve the problem ... then again a spray delivered in the SAAFL office by megaphone would do the same result as an editorial ... selective deafness.

I wasn't trying to put a dampener on things. I love the club stories and those type of pieces and I'd actually like to see a bit more of it if possible.

Do you know what Hosie has had to deal with in dealing with Mr "Honeymooner" Shadiac.

Yep - all the clubs are now calling him "Honeymooner"

Hosie only writes the concern of the clubs. He gets emails from all the clubs and the clubs who hold the most concerns he prints. He often gets up to 300 emails or phone calls a week from clubs just not happy with the League and thats his call to print what either is good or bad about them. He has written a host of good news stories about the League as well or is Benchwarmer conveniently forgetting the story about how good it is about Thebarton Oval, Junior Programmes at Gepps Cross, Having a commonsense President with Gino Capogrecco, How good it is to have a beer with opposition clubs, Finals venues at the best grounds.Teams of the Year in each Grade.

To my knowledge the only bad ones he has written about the League is about Umpires, i-score, The Tribunal, That Nobody wants to have Under 23 State games and wants to revert to Open Age State Footy and Apparel Licences. All of those "bad news stories" are all true and exactly what the clubs are complaining about. Geez - he is doing the clubs a service by printing what the clubs actually want and not the fluffy crap that the League want to pedal towards us.

I haven't seen every edition I will admit (probably about 10-11) and I will take a step back on the editorials as I now remember the Thebby piece and the beer after the game. I reckon that I have probably seen all the negative ones raised and that may have clouded my argument but I will say that I haven't conveniently constructed an argument based on ignoring every good thing.

But I will reiterate that it's hard to change umpiring unfortunately. Imagine the day when umpiring was less interpretation and more cut-and-dried-yes-and-no decision making (well, we can dream at least). I have heard some extremely unflattering things about the CEO all the way from Perth through various sources.

Is the Tribunal panel independent or is there somehow club allegiances via the people appointed (ex-players, officials, etc)? There always seems to be issues with footy tribunals that other sports can easily avoid. Rarely do you hear much hullabaloo bout a cricket tribunal hearing!

I'm not against the Budget in any way shape or form ... hell I wish our Amateur league had something for players and spectators to read. These publications give clubs the chance to raise a bit of coin and get people talking about the footy around them and not the insular AFL world that neglects the levels below them that bring in the money and makes them prosper. I just don't want to get to the point where every single week, you wonder what each side is going to have a go at the other about as it can eventually wear thin and aggravate the readership. It hasn't got to that but I don't want it to.

Your spot on there, they should stop the bitch session and just report the matches... To me it seems as if the writers have some sort of chip on their shoulders about something.

There is far too much editoral involved, and the shrek v boosehound rubbish started to wear a bit thin after the first 3 rounds.

Apart from that, the actual game reviews are a good read, but i skip over the editorial rubbish.

What a joke! Has everyone seen the front cover of the latest SAAFL news?

They have got it wrong again!!

Michael "Bomber" Burden won the C5 medal, not the Div 6R medal as stated. And Steven Newchurch won the Div 6R medal, not C5.

They have all the info, how do you get it so wrong!?

But wait................... There is plenty more where that came from.
The medal writeup has more holes in it than a second hand tea-strainer.
Clubs are paying good money for this "second rate" and "error riddled" information,
Can I ask "WHY"?

Just had a look at the SAAFL Footy News for Saturday's Div 1 Grand Final and it is very good has an excellent review of the game and plenty of photos, well done to the Amateur league for this edition.

Yes I agree with those sentiments, a much better presentation. That's the standard that needs to be maintained all season IMO

Im sure my delegate told me that at the last delegates meeting a statement was made that SAAFL were going to conduct a survey and review the media part of the process

Dont know when that happened as in the last SAAFL newsletter announcements were made re publication dates etc. for next year

Very quick review...no club consultation (again) and it seems our $$s will be spent on the same crap again next year.

Why dont these people at HQ listen to the people who pay the bills and employ them
Opinions and bumholes..you either have one or are one IMO

Riddler, where would you like to go on your weekend with the "dreaded duo"? What about overnight at the Mount Mary Motel?
Now you might need the compass to find the place so I got it out of the drawer in case. It's in a ENE direction.
