One of Mitchell Park's favourite sons played a milestone game on the weekend.
Nat McDonnell suited up and managed to savour a big upset victory over WOS for his 250th. Such is his humility, few people at the club even knew about it and Nat made a deliberate effort to keep it under wraps. Despite having the capability to either play much higher or perhaps even for coin, he has always maintained there is no other club for him and has stuck with the Lion's through the occasional thick and sadly more frequent very thin times. Has played under duress over the last few seasons as the years catch up with him and injuries and defenders fists take their toll, but still commands the oppositions best backman.
Despite his appearance, bad tattoos and on field demeanor (easily our most passionate) Nat is a very genteel sort of bloke off the field. A doting father and husband, and great friend, he is guy that I reckon most players think about at Mitchell Park when they are looking for inspiration.
Further to that and on a personal note, there is absolutely no way I would be playing this year if Nat hadn't looked me directly in the eye and explicitly asked me to. I was a fair bit disillusioned with football after injuring my knee and not being able to do what I used to (not that much to begin with), Nat McDonnell was the sole person who had the capacity to make me motivated to play again. On the flipside of that I was absolutely gutted to hear that I had disappointed him greatly by not playing in our Div 7 flag. No coach, team mate, girlfriend, boss or really anyone could have made me play again, only Nat, such is the esteem I and everyone he meets (perhaps not the opposition

) holds him in.
Whilst a bit rough around the edges and prone to the odd nudie run, Nat is one of the finest individuals I have ever met. A true champion of Mitchell Park.
