Agree with you there mighty hounds the boys from south wouldn't be playing for nothing but I can see why the boys have left South. Every year South promises the world and delievers nothing. Casey Schell, Ronny Lee and Lee Makris have been quality BL&G footballers for many years and Jake McVicar and Scotty Evans are more than handy footballers. Plus gun former lion benny hailday coming out retierment to play at Elizabeth the south gawler boys probably feel that Elizabeth there best club to play finals and have a crack at a flag.
Is Makris a definite? I heard Schell, McVicar and Ronnie Lee all are, but not sure about Makris.

Elizabeth dont pay players! Players come to us.
Elizabeth is a great club. and players have a lot of respect for our club. Elizabeth has had a big change in Committee over past few years. We got some youngish guys/gals who are optimistic, love the club and want to bring the club into new millennium and not happy to dwell in lower divisions. they are proactive and things get done. Whereas previously that may not have been the case.
Also our juniours are having a resurgence. A few years back, could hardly fill teams. No i believe we had 3 sides make Grand Finals! inc Under 15s. I know i get bagged for talking up the Eagles, but look out! Elizabeth will become a major force in the higher divisions in next 5-10 years

Anyone that has their doubts about the culture at Argana park. Go to the club and have a drink :) U may be surprised. Im now free from my work committments on saturdays, so ill be down there a lot more in 2010 thankfully :D

I believe Adelaide Lutheran will field a very similar side in 2010 that they did in 09. They are a club who traditionally find it hard to attract players so won't be lining up any 'guns' like everyone else seems to be, but were by no means uncompetitive in Div 4 on their day this year so should be fairly competitive still in Div 5 I would think. North Haven are unknown because of all the talk about who is in and out at that place so I'd hate to speculate on them...

We've lost 1 or 2 from this year, getting 3-4 2007 GF players back, got a few names flying around and a coach from the South East with plenty of contacts.
We'll be alright.

Wasnt predicting a Cup in 2010. Just very confident club is on the rise as a whole. Not just a gun A grade side.

Yep, he (DH) would be a very handy addition to a Div 5 side.

When I started the topic of Elizabeth enticing the players with coin I wasn't attacking Elizabeth the club, I haven't played against them in about 6 or 7 years but in the few years I did I never had a bad word to say about them, the players played in a good spirit the facilities were good and the club people were friendly but that is beside the point, why is it that every club claims to pay no players yet every player that changes clubs claims to be getting paid, i reckon it is a bit of stretching the truth in both cases.
My club North Haven have paid a few players over the last few years in order to get our club up higher divisions like what you are trying to do with Elizabeth and we were open about it and everybody is still getting stuck into us about it and have been exagerating it ever since. Unfortunately it all came unstuck and we were relegated for the 1st time in 27 years for a careless appointment.
I have a problem. It's to do with the little man, the squashed-in French man, the naked little squashed up hairy boy! You know! With the hand feet

Broken Arm this year, badly broken nose last year to name some of his recent injuries, these are just the ones that needed surgery. Plus the knock to his ego when Roo kicked 10 or 11 on him :D I think he is just spending more time with his young family, will still be around the place and is still pretending to be a cricketer

Take it easy, He made a well compiled duck on the weekend :D

In fact, you would have liked to have the minor round finish after Round 1 this year - a cracking win over a much talked about Greenacres (IIRC) - it made everyone stop and look

so what's the definition of 'paying players'?

there are many ways and means and if more than one is used in a club then differnet people will know what's going on and others may think they know what's going on. its been a topic of discussion around our place for the last 12 months.

so which one is it when everyone talks about paying players on here?

(1) written agreement with player with set amount and terms of payment
(2) sponsor who gives to the club and the club in turn to the player without a specific written agreement
(3) free drinks and food at the club, no subs to be paid, don't pay to be at social events
(4) player cash awards at after match preso's
(5) player comes to club and gets a job through a club connection
(6) etc etc
