Cmon Felch you cant deny that the club have let go some good people along the journey and have kept some absolute duds. Mark Moody is a classic example.

I didnt say i didnt agree with you - Moods was shafted, at least a couple of times. My point is that the only way to change things is to hang around and make a difference.

How do you do that though. You of all people should know how much time and effort certain people put in to that club to get it to the point it got to. Those people still got shafted, and the people who shafted them are still there running the show. How do you change that. Answer this honestly, do you think that the club can keep moving forward with the current people running the show.

[quote="Felch"]Newman you need to let go of your issues !!! People cant change anything if they are at other clubs !!!

Newman is spot on, Portland have the ability to really be a powerful club.

Honestly, i do think the club can move forward as is, but i do agree it could move forward alot quicker if things were done different at times. I suppose how far forward it can go is another question. I think if you seriously want to be a top D3/D2 club then things would have to be changed - more emphasis on football is required, with more football-orientated people making the decisions. The problem with being a middle of the road D4 club is that you are caught in no-mans land - D1/D2 clubs have footy departments, with large budgets and lower grade clubs (D6/D7) can be run more like social clubs. You would have to admit, the club is well run, from an admin point of view. The footy side of things need to catch up. Mate, the way i see it there were two options - walk away or stay and see if i can contribute to the footy side of things. I know its alot easier for me to say that, your situation is different, but in my opinion, by you and others leaving, certain people got exactly what they wanted.

Portland would not need a large budget to climb out of div 4 or even div 3. There have been enough dedicated and talented players that would support the club through without having to be paid. The difference between good clubs and great clubs is the operations - for that you are correct. Seems at Portland that the admin side run the footy side etc.
Take the top six guys from the club for each year over the past 3 - 4, put them together and I'd say there'd be a decent side on the park. Not many of them were getting the big bucks either.
I do see your point and completely sympathise with your personal approach and situation, its good to see that your not blinded by the fact that one size fits all.

Heard on the grape vine one of the GSFL teams is training all Adelaide based players on Monday nights here in Adelaide (old iggies) I reckon they'd kick off at 6pm or something like that. Theyd probably welcome extra training numbers.

Really Felch? I heard the opposite mate, all reports have him pinned as a top bloke! But you right, Portland could probably use Newman tonight, first time half the players down there wouldve seen a drop punt in real life.

Nice work Gimpy, I reckon your leather mask is on to tight mate.
Felch you are kidding yourself, time to inject some reality into Portland fella. Ive seen your wonder drills, reminds me of watching the U/15s at Port run around, just less skills.
You blokes dont have a key forward, you dont have any experienced players in the ilk of Marshall and you clearly are talking as if you are about to embark on a season of batting above your average. Mate, you will battle hard but again the top five will be out of reach.

You are right, key forwards have always been a problem, we thought we had one a couple of years back, but there was one problem - he couldnt mark or kick goals !!!
Im sure you said a couple of posts back that Portland will make the top 4 ?!?! I have never said that we will be worldbeaters - but we will be better than last year. Worry about your own backyard mate - it may not be as good as you think.
Heres a question for you, seeing you seem to be so close to Encounter Bay - of all the players they have recruited from Portland, how many played A grade last year at Portland ? Cmon now, dont give excuses or reasons, just answer the question.

Your trying your hardest to tell me that if Matthew Webber and Dylan Frank and Scott Kretchsmer returned to the club you'd not have room for em? You are completely dillusional and clearly to pre-occupied with the trying to squeeze ability out of your playing list that you cant actually even be resonable. Your 2005 forward played 6 games, spent most friday nights blind with the o/35s, he actually didnt come to Portland to play but to train after coming back from overseas, you need to check your facts Felcher. it stupid comments like yours and un thought out opinions that rob your club of quality locals who only want to play for the jumper and see the club succeed.
