Adelaide Footy League Talk

Sheik gotta love the u6's. One of my sons started last year and was more concerned with building sand castles and playing pile ons than chasing the footy. Great fun for the kids. One kid for Gepps kicked over 60 goals for the u6's. No sand castles for him just give him the ball and watch him go.

A bit sensitive there sheik!
I dont have a hidden agenda, i just dont like Para Hills in general!!
Seeing 1 of ur little punks waving a knife around made them a laughing stock.
And we look forward to playing them this year and pumping them because a few years ago, they gave us a few hidings.

Didnt u hear about the meat cleaver weilding PH's U17 player this year????
Or dont u see anything wrong with that? They are on their downward spiral now, were gonna pump em big time when we play em this year.

Was referring to what I've SEEN in the junior grades over the past 7 years at Para Hills.
Going by your post you have some hidden agenda with them, thats why there's a ''new post'' button at the top of the page, I'd suggest you use it & start a new topic.

Your right Stanley, ''hidden agenda '' was a poor choice of words.
I should have stated ''an axe to grind'' maybe ?

Well it is kind of hard to get the gist of what you mean over the internet. Perhaps a slighty better choice of words may help out as you put. But all is good Sheik.
Lets just leave it at an Axe to grind.

Gepps Cross would be the second most financial clubs in the competition, behind Salisbury North, although i have heard Gepps Cross are tighting the belt on player payments after spending around 60k and going down a division last year.

I've heard that Portland are also well off, with more than 70k in the bank. It amazes me that a club with so much money and good juniors have gone down a grade. With the mass exit of players i think they better start spending some of their money.

Why the change of tact by Gepps as they have supposedly been throwing the cash around for years? New President, Football Director or both?

Dont believe everything you hear. Gepps have had 1 year when they paid way too much for over rated hacks. No change in direction required just common snese with the salary cap and all. Funny how a club that is professionally run with facilities second to none is automatically assumed to be paying truck loads of coin to its players. Plenty of other clubs paying way more than the rams.

WOULD HAVE THOUGHT A MAJOR CHANGE IN DIRECTION HAS OCCURRED IF YOU NO LONGER PAY OUTRAGEOUS MONEY TO OLD PLAYERS WHO DONT PERFORM. THAT WAS DEFINITELY A RECIPE FOR DISASTER. NOT THE RIGHT CULTURE FOR LONG TERM SUCCESS. WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY?

We collect subs as a weekly match fee. You only pay if you play. The players seem to find it easier to pay weekly than in a lump sum. They pay it weekly to the team manager who passes it on to the Treasurer weekly. It includes payment for the after game softies and beer (changerooms).

Only pain is there isn't that lump sum up front at the beginning of the year. Still, if they aren't paying, that isn't there anyway.

Just an idea.

Blublu, our club employed this method many many years ago and found that whilst originally successful, it failed eventually due to having players who hadn't played prior to the game and the number was too large to replace ... If you have 10 blokes between your two grades who haven't paid up, it's pretty difficult to replace them all on a Sat morning or Arvo, have you guys experienced any similar problems and if so, how have you managed to get around them?

On here bagging Gepps again A League. You are fixated with us. What happened mate you have a bad experience against us? We had one year when we had 3 players come from the SANFL and yes they were well paid and honestly only one was worth the coin. Still that was 2 years ago and as I said before no major change in direction needed and the club culture is fine thanks. Lets see what happens for the remainder of the year.

CP, you may have read 'you only pay if you play' as 'you only play if you pay'. A small difference but a different meaning. The reason I said it is if a bloke plays, and 3 weeks into the season does his knee, he hasn't already forked out all his subs. With the weekly system, someone else comes into the side and pays their weekly amount.

If a player doesn't pay on a particular week the team manager keeps a record and follows it up the next week. I know it could cause a problem if someone kept on not paying but we haven't really had that trouble yet. The guys know they have to pay each week on a Saturday.

Cheers.

You might want to check your facts kookas, Portland have never received any cash from the Power. Why would they give a SAAFL club money?

My apologies aleague. Forgot about Holmes. He did not play as many games as the others mentioned so did not cost as much in the end. No argument from me on him. Over rated and overpaid when he did play.Interesting debate. Was our first year in A1 when they came to the club.Steed and Carter were v good in that year and we managed to finish 3rd. The following year joined by Leys who had little impact on ground. Steedy was excellent and tried his guts out each week so no gripes there giving him good coin.

I know because i am a foundation member. The Power handed over no money, there was no reason to. There was some assistance from the Magpies, but this was because they took over the old Ethelton clubrooms and oval as a training base, displacing Ethelton FC. The Power may have helped the Port Adelaide Cricket Club, who share facilities with Portland, seeing that they kicked them off Alberton Oval. This has nothing to do with Portland though, the two clubs are independent of each other. And CJ,obviously college education was a waste of money for your parents - LEARN TO SPELL AND/OR TYPE!!!
