What was the game like.....competitive hit out.

Initial thought would be Virginia would be far too good even for a trial.

Was a bit like that in the two quarters I watched.

Without being purposely disrespectful to either side.. reckon it speaks volumes of where Virginia is at as a club when their 3x trials games are against St Pauls (D6), Smithfield (D7) and Central United (D7).

Given Smithfield were competitive from all reports Friday, I'd say Virginia are in for a loooooong season.

I think that was a directive from the YP league, as Bute cancelled their game with Ingle Farm in the end, as well as our game with Edithburg

Negative, we followed up with Bute Friday morning - YP didn't provide any directive.

Two reasons ours was cancelled - one was the power outage that affected large part of YP and was unlikely to be resolved before the Saturday match.. and the other was we had YPFL umpires who said stick the trial up your arse we aren't umpiring in that heat.. especially for a trial.

Athelstone will be very hard to beat from what I heard about their trial yesterday.

Yeah 100% agree, Virginia won't get close to Two Wells, Balak or Mallalla this year.

Just chatting to a few blokes who supposedly went and apparently was Virginia by comfortably over 10 goals. Like you said though given the sides they are playing in trial games they seem pretty aware of where they are at.

The Rams lead by 11 goals at half time. Not sure how competitive that is? Ultimately ran out winners by 13 goals.

If the Rams can keep everyone on the park they will be extremely competitive with the sides in the bottom half of the Plains. The issue being that there is a deep yawning chasm between the top and bottom teams in that league.

Good on Smithies for challenging themselves against a Country team, hopefully they can improve this year.

Still think gullies the team to beat by a long way.

I would love for someone to go back through trial match threads over the years to see how results have converted to how teams have fared during the season. I think some on here get a little too carried away with trial results and it also makes me laugh when you can get multiple answers as to who won and by how much etc.

Whilst I'm here. Brighton are playing ROC at St Marys on Saturday with the main game commencing at 12 noon.

Are trial games losing their value?

Ahead of us playing a trial this weekend, I'm wondering if there really is any point to them anymore.
