No disrespect intended, it's just what we do.
I wasn't aware there was a right and wrong way of celebrating a victory?!

there isn't. just more about personal opinion... or a club tradition.

We have also done it on the oval from day dot, maybe this is because we are a younger club and in the early days it the changerooms doubled as clubrooms after so there wasnt much room to do it in there? (I wasnt there then). It really seems to have followed on from there.

When I was at Kilburn we sang on the oval in the B grade, purely because we didnt win all that many games so we celebrated hard, also in B grade games you often are waiting for the A grade side to come out, if you win you want to celebrate right away.

Agreed

Singing it on the field is the ultimate disrespect to your opponent, do it in the changerooms - sounds better, and subtly rubs it in rather than blatently shoving it in their face.

The only exception is after a Grand Final where it is tradition to sing it with the entire club. When you win the premiership, you can do whatever you want. (including urinating on the centre square :) )

Sadly singing it on the field has crept into junior football, not a good look and not the attitude they should be developing.

We've always sung it on the oval, even in juniors so parents can watch.

Have no idea how people can mistake it as being disrespectful.

Yeah, I tend to agree with Pag, people are over thinking it.

If you circled the home team and then started singing it, that would probably be a little disrespectful ;)

Always good to watch the two's singing as the one's run out though

Always painful to hear it sung on the ground if you do lose. Especially if the coach forces you to stay and listen to it. I think the Plympton coach in the B's made his boys stick around to hear the song after we cam back big time in the last quarter a few weeks back

If the opposing team sings the song on the ground I make the players stay together and listen, if they sing it in the changerooms the players are in there and still hear it. Not good to hear but hopefully from these moments it builds our team and makes them hungrier for the win. Well thats what I was hoping for in the first few weeks but now it may just be mean to make them sit through it each week...

The theme at North Haven seems to sing the song in the changerooms, home or away unless it's in a grand final, though that hasn't really happened in a while.

Although when we've had a really fantastic win we have sung it on the ground but that's only been done a few times since I've played senior footy. Round 18 last season when we knocked PAOC in the C grade we sang it on the ground same with when we beat Henley in the under 18s in 2008.

From another angle, how many times?
Salisbury West beat us out there last year and sang their song three times. Twice on the oval and once in the sheds. Obviously some other things happening at their club that prompted it (other than the win that is, perhaps something to do with their C grade). Didn't feel disrespected or offended, just curious as to why so many times.

If you don't like the opposition singing on the oval then get out to training and work harder together so then you give yourself lesser chance of it happening next time.... ;)

I've played against sides who have their photo taken on your ground as minor premiers and carry on like they won the GF including singing the song.
We then played them 2 weeks later and smashed them by 8 goals on that same ground and then played another side in the GF 2 weeks later.....which we won :)

Not a good look a group of kids singing a club song on the oval, get off the grass, it's great, I watch and am involved at Junior level, i see some sides lose games at young levels
and they still sing the song, reckon its great

When my kid started playing netball her team sung the song every week even though they were getting pumped. Only thing they got excited about.

They sung it in a circle with one person crouching in the middle who threw the bibs up at the end like a volcano exploding.

Was fantastic! Get me a bib!

Most teams ive played it, its out on the oval, again in the rooms if its a hard fought win or just to stick it up the opposition if there is a bit of agro in the game.

Ive played in games were we have won by 30 odd goals or against a side that may be short of players and i hate singing the song, just doesnt feel right. But thats just my opinion.

And the golden rule.. NEVER sing the song after a trial game win!!!!!!!

in the AFL i find it quite tiresome when after the game you get the standard cameraman in the middle of the circle while they sing the song usually pretty flatly whilst most are trying to avoid eye contact with the camera when its their turn to have it in their face.. Its boring and I dont bother watching unless its agreat win.

Collingwood tell the media to piss off out of the middle for their circle. Wish more teams would to the same.

Agree with your golden rule as well. Ultimate Arrogance if you do that
