SAAFL Division 8 & D8R (2012)

Whats this talk about Div 9 , Div 10 etc?

From what I have read Div 8 is talked about being brought in so clubs with a C & D grade can play at the same ground. I would then think that all other teams with a C grade side will remain in the C divisions.

yeah well lets not like get technical geez

just layin out a structure to find solution

can call it the panzee division for all i care

We are in exactly the same boast SD, we would like them to play at the same ground for logistics reasons but I strongly doubt we would be able to compete with the clubs that will play in this division

Yeah ya right Boosh. We think we would find it hard in this div and we were a 10 goal better side than you GF day so I understand your concerns! ( Sorry Boost, couldn't help myself!) :-)

Well that's true but i think given the closeness of all our grades and both clubs exploring the idea of a D Grade we have very similar concerns.

And don't be Sorry I play A Grade and we are a 7 point better team than yours ;)

Spot on Boosh

Although great for both clubs if they get a D grade side up and running, not much fun if both struggle against the higher ranked clubs. If the C's and D's both struggle in 2012, makes it hard to maintain enough players for the following years and the D Grade might drop off pretty quickly. Then on the other hand, it makes it hard if the C's and D's play at seperate ovals each week so Div 8 then becomes the only real option. Bit of a catch 22... :?

I know you're only having some fun, but our 2011 side was about a 7-8 goal better side than our 2010 side. The most you guys ever beat us by was about 4-5 goals I reckon.

Plympton 2010 v HV 2011 - I reckon we might have just had you covered ;)

It's a tough call, it's not so much the players being at different grounds it's the support staff trainers, umpires etc

Might not have a choice, executive of the league are looking at the whole "c" grade set up.

I reckon it was Goody Saints and I don't think they have a D grade so couldn't play in Div7...

was goodwood saints who won c1 (cuss, mutter, cuss, look angrily at the saafl, cuss) over the blacks.
they don't have a d grade.

was looked at last year in an initial c2/c6 division - main question is how competitive sides will be with those possibly dropping down from div 7 and those coming up from the middle ranges of c3/c4.

i'd stick with current formats unless those clubs wanting to play 2 sides can't fill spots in div 7 as none are available.

eg this year athelstone (for some bizarre reason) won't fill two sides and could be replaced by flinders park while another spot to replace the bye is probably to be taken by smithfield.

as an adjunct, any stand alone club (eg ovingham) should play in the highest c grade division so that the desired jump to fielding two sides is not as big a surprise.

So if goodwood as the highest ranked team in the C comps doesnt hav a D grade side then who is the next highest placed team in the C comps that does hav a d grade side and could come up to div7 to replace athelstone?

Unless flinders park are more keen than any to fill the role...

It is our clubs aim to get back into D7 & D7r but D8 & D8r might be a good fit for this year as our d grade might not be strong enough yet for D7r but a D8 & D8r comp becomes a path way for clubs with a C & D grade who want to get into D7 & D7r and not have their teams split across several divisions.

uni came second in c1 with broadview third but already have their c grade in div 6.
fllinders park won c2 in 2010 (beating uni) and c3 (beating smosh)in 2011 with princes (i believe ) winning c2 this year. This history of success for flinders, to me, suggests that they would have a better chance of competing in div 7 than princes - which with no disrespect intended won probably the least strong of the upper 3 c grade divisions (c2).
