I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Russell Evans coached at Portland in 97, 98 and 99. He was the best i have had, closely followed by Mark Moody.

Russell very good tactically and very well organised, Mark was a great motivater.

I agree on Russell. He was a very good communicator, and his 3 years at Portland laid the foundation for the 2000 D4 flag.

Moods is a great motivator, and is the best coach i have played under. Some of his pre-game and half-time speeches made you want to run through walls for him.

While playing with Kilburn back in the late 90s early 00s, Craig Smith (ex Uni coach at the time and played with Port Districs i believe) coached us in div 1 res and for a side that has been for a long time easy beats he had a miss out on finals by 1 game. I know that i frutrsted him on many occasions but i found him to be a good coach.

Although i have not been coached for any games by him have deffinately been impressed with Ashley Mitchell.

David Guest
John Panagaris

If David had stayed with us the full year, I have no doubt we would've gone top. That's no disrepect to the caretaker coach, but because David was playing coach, and inspirational at that, the wind was somewhat taken out of our sails.

John, he was a classic. Sometimes got so worked up he couldn't put two words together, but got a mob that was very ordinary in the first part of the season through to a GF by winning 11 of our last 12. The one we dropped was the last minor round game vs Mitcham when we rested a heap of players, got belted then rocked up the following week (or week after I can't recall) and towelled them up in the finals.

Eddie Fry was great, as a 16 year old playing A grade he really built up your confidence. I still remember one numb nut Pultney supporter on the sideline bagging him "What would you know mate, not like you have ever done anything in football", even his mates told him to shut up

des kemp would be the best coach i played under. as a 17yo starting out in a's he really gave me alot of confidence in myself. he was a great mentor of the game!!

also i'll throw in neil rawlings - i won my first a grade premiership under him in '02. was (is) an absolute champion of a bloke on and off the field! still when i see him these days is still a great bloke to be around.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

He had a year or even 2 at Districts before coming to Uni.
