GF Replay, close in location, big rivalry (anyone who saw the GF last year will back me up), RSL next door to Salisbury Oval who would get inolved, think it could be a great day.

But agree with Felch, the number has be limited. 1 per division, tops.

Would work well i reckon Pag. Local derby, some recent rivalry. And you would think that both Salisbury and Para Hills would be a good match-up, as far as a contest.
I would think Portland vs North Haven could work too, lots of feeling in those clashes always.

But it would be no good having Portland vs Haven on ANZAC day if, for example,if you had Port Districts vs Seaton on up the road. Both games are targeting the same audience.

Gepps Cross was the initiator with this format a few years ago when they played Kilburn, as it currently stands with the SAAFL, I think it's first in gets the gig. This will only be changed through pressure from within the ranks. I think there is a Div 6 game also, Hope Valley v's Houghton

So did the SAAFL notify you that it is going to happen ? Im guessing you seen a draft 2008 draw then.

Yeah I understand Gepps initiated it first thats fair.

I just hope it doesn't end up being exclusively to 2 clubs involved like the AFL. Everyone should be able to participant if they want to! Limited though.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

I think if the SAAFL are going to program games on Anzac Day then it should be the previous seasons GF teams in Div1. For the other divisions it should be the 3rd & 4th sides from the previous season. But until the SAAFL program the games then the clubs that are requesting games should be granted them but only one game per division (first in best dressed).

Hope Valley and Houghton are in talks to hold a local derby clash on ANZAC day this year. I believe it has been agreed in principle by the 2 clubs, not sure if it's definite or not

If you want a big crowd you would pull a Gaza V Broadview game for Anzac day i reckon. Have been out at both grounds on days where they have past palyer days and you can get anywhere close to 1000

Having say Kenilworth vs Smithfield (just an example) wouldn't draw the crowd due to the travel factor.

Felch, no I haven't seen a draft of the season, the office only reopened this week and until team nominations are finalised, no draw is looked at. I did make a 'blue' though with the timing of when the request was put forward to the SAAFL, it was in the 1st week of October after discussion with the Gaza people at a Junior Grand Final held at Gaza.

At this stage with no firm policy about who plays who or where, surely the clubs that get off their butts and show a bit of foresight have the first option. If the SAAFL want to adopt a policy about it, that's for them to do in due course.

Hey Aceman I thougt you finished with Gepps four years ago? I agree with Shirtfront Gaza vs Broadies would be a far better spectacle and draw a much bigger crowd.

Fair call about other teams maybe pulling bigger crowds, but Gepps have to be given credit for introducing the idea to the SAAFL. They got a fantastic crowd against us two years ago and there's no doubt they will again.

While playing on the Friday may be better for players, it may pull less of a crowd than a mid week game. People can't be arsed going to the footy two days in a row.

you know what they should do for Anzac Day, play the Grand finalists Div 1 as a curtain raiser to the SANFL Anzac Day at Adelaide Oval!

this would attract a crowd to the SAAFL that would no doubt stay for the SANFL game and also could creat some interest in SAAFL by playing before a SANFL league game.

Also provides a type of incentive or reward of the two grand finalists to play in this exlcusive match!!

To be clear about who got in first - last year both Port Districts and Seaton played on Anzac Day at Port Districts and was an excellent day. As soon as the game was finished BOTH clubs (Seaton and Port Districts), approached the SAAFL, and the beloved, Mr Shadiac, to ensure that the replay was held in 2008, to ensure that Seaton also enjoyed the financial benefits of such a match on such a prestigeous day. Port Districts to their credit have upheld that idea and concept since then and hopefully a rematch of last years game will still occur at Seaton Oval this year.

I know many will scream when they read the next part but still - I think the Anzac Day match, must have an A1 or very high A2 grade match played on that day and also only 1 match played.

I honestly dont believe that there would be a great attraction to see an A4 or A5 game played on that day. I think that you have to leave it to the big boys to play on this special day. Perhaps the Grand Final Replay from A1, of the previous year would be the right way to go - with the home ground going to the Premiership team.

I know this will invoke much debate and wont keep many happy with those comments. With so many teams between A3 and A9, there is a greater chance that I will be bagged by these teams. The sheer weight of numbers suggests that there are only 10 - A1 teams and a heep of teams between A3 and A9, so I guess I will be slagged big time for suggesting that it be an A1 day, or the best teams of the competition day.

AF, do you say this purely from the standpoint of getting more numbers through the gate on that day?
