have had a close look at the owls a few times in the last couple of weeks. They are hard at it, disciplined , would be the quickest side in the div by a long way, and dont rely on one bloke to kick their goals. Huge show this week and winning form is good form. Good luck to them

Now I hope this isn't right. I've heard that the SAAFL gave away the 'Free Bed' that you win for being the highest goal scorer in each Div, to that McDonnell bloke from Mitchell Park, who came 2nd to Cameron Carroll. The so called reasoning was that the powers to be feel that Carroll should be playing a higher grade at SHOC. C'mon SAAFL are you for real?

i dont know about that prize mate, but that bloke mcdonnell is just as worthy as what carroll is
not taking anything away from carroll but big luke has been atop line player for over a decade at the lions and his only year away was to try himself at a higher level in the southern league where he was also in the top goal kickers
he gets nowhere near the supply carrol gets and is and never has been looked after by umpires
i like reading your stuff normally because it seems to put a smile on my face on bad days but when talking about players who have kicked nearly if not have a thousand goals show just abit of respect because it is desreved

Maybe it was only a queen sized bed, Carroll's a pretty big unit.

Interesting - surely Nick Tait could have been the next option also kicking the ton. Or does it have to be in an A grade comp?

Not sure how they decide how to do it but it would be like awarding the league medal to the guy who came second because he has come second a million times.

The award doesn't recognise the best SAAFL player over the last 10yrs. And on another note, there's some teams in the SFL that wouldn't cut it in SAAFL Div7, namely the entire bottom 8. McDonnell is a good player but Carroll kicked more goals! Simple as that.

Yeah but the award was based on who kicked the most goals in a clubs first team, Carroll plays in his clubs third team.

Think about it. Its a good thing to encourage people to play as high as they can, and help avoid the Modbury D Grade conundrum.

thats a bit rich! aldinga touched CLG up in a trial by 12 goals. i agree probably marion and hackham would get beat in div 7 and maybe christies but dunno about the rest of the bottom 8.

Easily one of the worst comments I've seen on this forum in four odd years. I've played A grade in both the SFL and div 7. Hack ham and Marion would easily make the finals and be strong contenders for the flag in div 7. That is with each side only winning one game each this year in the SFL.

Not so sure about that one too EV. Mawson Lakes accounted for Hackham comfortably in a trial last year, but we ended up only 6th. To say that Hackham and Marion would 'easily' make the finals in Div 7 would be an overstatement IMO.

Your kidding yourself! Hackham lost a game by 300 points this year and Marion didn't kick a goal 2 weeks in a row! Any side in the top 5 of div 7 would do better then that! Hackham and Marion wouldn't beat any of the sides in the top 5 of div 7.

Well ml did win the first 8 games of the season that year then lost 9 out of the next ten. There was obviously something other than talent in the equation that year that has been overcome this year.
