Yeah thanks to Plympton for the two hitouts yesterday, the game was played in good sprits. The Red Dogs have fought hard over the past years to get into Div 4, best of luck to them this coming season. One of the goals of yesterday was to have a real decent blowout and that's what we got.
As for the games,
Our side in the first match was mainly made up of B, C and D graders and despite having a fair few new blokes and guys who haven't played with each other before I thought we worked well together. After a sloppy start I thought we controlled most of the game through the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters but dropped off in the last (we did have about 6/7 guys taken off to play in the second game) and I think the scoreboard would of showed Plympton as being the winners coming from behind after we were on top for most of the game.
Our side in the second game was made up of blokes apart of the A grade squad and about 6/7 blokes who played in the first game who came up to fill the bench. It turned out that Plympton did the same, there was probably about a dozen guys over both teams who played in both games. The scoreboard would have showed that Plympton won quite easily in the end but I think being a trail game our effort was still really good and that we went about it in the right way.
In both games I thought that our intensity and attack on the ball and body was at the high level it's need to be at and our skill level wasn't bad in the first game after a sloppy start and very good in the second, which was one of the big positives in the second game along with our forward 50 entries, the delivery to our key forwards was spot on. I think the biggest difference between to two sides was the the ability to move the ball quickly through run and carry and to take the game on, which Plympton did really well and better than us, they were also a bit cleaner in close too but I'm sure we will improve on those two things as we head into next week and then round 1.
Looking forward to next Saturday against Trinity now, cant wait. Footy's back!
