Would like to say thanks to Smithfield FC for a good day Saturday. They had a massive turn out for their 100 year celebrations and they were in good voice. Was good to head in for a chat after the game and the players (and myself) were very grateful for the beers they provided. Great set up they have in their clubrooms. LM it was good to have a chat.

As for the game any team that underestimates Smithfield will get found out. Smithfield came out and tackled hard from the beginning. They have some great young players with plenty of pace, just need to get the fitness to match. Good luck to the boys for the remainder of the season.

We now need to turn our attention to Angle Vale this weekend.

Cheers mate, yeah it was good to put a face to a username, mixed in the same circles a fair bit. Smithfield for a change made some late charge's all to which North Pines answered by keeping that arm's reach apart.
Young Reggie looks in better shape than I thought he would after a bit of lay off, it was a pretty hard fought game yet pretty mellow as far as heat, North Pines were the better side, the umpiring seemed pretty good.
Smithfield need's to adapt a slightly different game style for mine to be a little more potent, they have a lot of pace but use it the wrong way, plenty to like out there though.

Another quality right up in the SAAFL Footy News  to suggest a team sitting a game out the 5, may in any way, just be happy to surprise a few teams in the second half of the season is mind boggling. Would it hurt to do some research into some of these teams. I highly doubt Smithfield would be entertaining thoughts of playing in Div 8 next season.

I thought div 8 was exclusive for C & D grade clubs only.

I know one of the two clubs definitely wouldn't, given the author's ties with the other club I guess they are warming to the idea.

Who cares if they are? Div 8 was introduced for C & D grade sides. If I am correct Div 8 & 8R sides get to select 25 players for games, not sure how many of the clubs would want to stay in Div 8 if all of a sudden next season they have to tell 8 players each week they cant get a game?
If you think Smithfield would be looking at playing Div 8 next season you are kidding yourself. They will improve as the season goes on and as above will take some scalps along the way. Flinders Uni are a different story but from the chats I had with them they are a proud bunch of blokes who were trying to turn things around.

I'm not sure their win count will be anything spectacular this season, there's quite a few former players that have been seeing how things go both on and off the field for possible returns next season.
They've copped one complete whooping and been pretty competitive for 3 qtrs in most games this season, there's some encouraging signs, but fielding two sides with spares each game this season has been a step in the right direction.
They will be a far better side next season but there's work to do in the meantime.

I thought that Smithfield was one of the best surfaces we have played on. We played after a couple days of rain and you wouldn't have even noticed.

That's right mate, will be no mud, excellent drainage, just a bit heavy under foot.

Apologies if you think I don't do the research, I did mention that you were just outside the five and hoping that your recent run of good form would propel you into the finals, didn't I? Unfortunately, the line suggesting you may surprise a few times along the way was an edited version of what I originally wrote. Stephen, the tireless editor of SAAFL Footy News, has to edit every single article in that publication and ensure it fits into the space provided. My original line was a lot longer and did suggest that if North Pines could sneak into the 5, they could surprise the a few teams in the finals, but the edited translation was completely different. Clubs have been invited to provide feedback and updates and anything they want included, but only a very few do.

As for Division 8, I was told that it potentially would include A&B grade clubs as of next year, but this did not come from the SAAFL and I assumed it was the case, time will tell whether it is.

I look forward to getting some updates from inside the North Pines club in the coming weeks Bigshow82.

Ballsy stuff mate =D> , I do similar stuff for cricket and know that you have to chase info, losing teams don't like going out of their way to help you out but are full of info when they pull off a good win.
At least now if anyone has any club milestone's etc. that they'd like to see in the sportsbeat, they have someone to pm.
