Maybe a few punching 30 but have atleast 5 years left in them at SAAFL level, its not as though they're old hacks.
Marshall maybe a dinosaur in some eyes but he can still play another 3 years the shape he's in, i'd say Portland would wishes Marshall was in their side!
The good thing about these older experienced players is they can help the youngsters out with direction & developement & we have alot of good young ones in our A grade team & squad.

As for Jarman, i did hear after our game last week he'll slip on the boots. All i can say to that is the depth their ( CBCOC) is non existant for a 44 year old to be lacing up.

ive really noticed the fact that this div doesnt have many kids (under 20) for the lack of a better word.

In regards to depth: We prob have 6 or 8 from our A grade squad injured, coming back from injury or coming back through the scoobies because of their non availability due to other commitments. Depth is a problem for our 33 yr old club. But not to the extent where we are panicking about it. It has defiantly improved and the club is growing. I think its only us and Para Hills that are the only clubs who have not been higher than div 3. 3yrs ago we struggled to fill a B grade and had no C grade. Non existent is bit of an over statement though.

We have never been higher than D3 either Flipper - not as an amalgamated club anyhow. Our highest finish in D3 has been 7th.

That costs $$$ Felch, something i think they will struggle to part with?

Portland have a big supporter base & they do support their club, they must also be turning over some $$$$ over that bar of theirs as we all know they can drink & love their pi$$.
Who's got the heavy pockets down there?

my limited understanding is that the bar is the community clubs and that it is divided in 3, Portland, PACC and the community club. we drink more then the cricket club, but some of our profits are lost there.
Our fees are cheap in comparison to other clubs, $60 to play seniors if your a student or under 21. with such a young club alot of money gets lost there.
Portland also doesnt have the luxury of using there oval as a carpark as seaton do which would definately be a massive cash booster allowing you to buy the likes of wanders etc etc.
so that is where alot of the cash goes.

Sorry Fisty but thats no excuse for where that club is sitting and where it should be sitting. With success comes money, and sometimes it costs a little to get alot. Portland is and will remain to be the yo-yo of A3-A4 unless they take a gamble and spend some of the coin we have all contributed over the past years!

Our club is fine. Paying players big $$$ is not the answer. Rewarding guys who do the right thing, and making the club a good place to be around is the way to go. We are on the right path, imo. We were a basket case 4 years ago, almost ended up in D5.

Unfortunately when you buy in players though Buzz alot of them dont hang around for too long. You dont always get people with the club in mind either, like blokes who dont come in after a game and wait out in their car for their girlfriend to run in and grab their special little envelope

Spot on Sturtman. Look around our area, at the clubs that forked out some big money for players recently. They are in D5, and those players have p!ssed off.
Im more than happy with where our club is sitting currently.

NM, not sure that Darren Jarman playing for CBC is a negative. To outsiders it may look like a lack of depth, but to me it looks like a professional bloke who loves playing footy, wanting to help his side in a higher standard of footy. We will never have the depth of the clubs that pay players, thats a fact.
Also a fact, is that we went down to depth blessed Seaton by 10 points at Seaton, hardly alarm bells ringing at Dolphin Park.

buzz the only thing we are missing at the moment is a couple of quality bigs and i know for a fact we did have a decent crack at a couple but as we all no bigs get offered way more in the country than a club like us can afford, you would be nieve to think no one gets paid at porland now, although very few im sure there would be some that are on something like there always has been,
PS see you down there buzz ;)
