Cows, I wouldn't get out of bed for $50 an hour 8)

It's unfortunate that this is the case, I remember when Smithfield were getting flogged in the B's a few years back I was umpiring for them, at half time I'd say to the other ump that we're staying up the same end because only one of us was doing any work.
It was weird going and umpiring in a different league that I had no ties with, one of the first comments made to me by the head of the umpiring fraternity was "You are a classic example of amateur league B grade umpiring", he was referring to my positioning and how I was reluctant to make calls when the play was in my counterparts end despite me being in a better position to see what happened.
I learnt more in 4 or 5 weeks than what I did in 4 or 5 years.

The major issues I had on the weekend is that the umpire in question, was paying silly free kicks from 50 meters away when the other umpire was closer and was happy to let the game flow on. I would be very surprised if one of these decisions went our way. A classic example is that one of our players was tackled and both umpires blew the whistle. The Angle Vale umpire about 50 meters away was about to call holding the ball, but was overruled by the closer SAAFL umpire who called it a ball up.

The week after we played Angle Vale i put up a few posts about the fella in question, and got some interesting responses. He sent 2 of our blokes off for no reason with 8 minutes to go. I have seen some very, very ordinary displays this year and one ump did cost us a win. I am not saying we have been on the end of all the bad decisions but at some stages the players don't even know who the free is for. Some games have been close to getting out of control because the players get so frustrated and it builds up during a match. I have played for FP for well over 10 years and never seen the umpiring this sub standard. As i have said two club umps are the way to go. If you have one ump aligned to a certain club and a nuetral SAAFL ump it is a joke. Reasonably fair down one end and ridiculous at the other.

Oh, I mis-interpreted your comment then, I read it as though some aren't allowed to pass comment or judgement on umpires.

Unfortunately Haynzy umpiring is the same most weeks for us too. Players just have to learn to not react and get on with the game quickly. I stat the free kicks (for no particular reason), and in the last 3 games we are receiving 1 in 4 and you know the results of those games. Against Nth Pines out there we had the same 2 umps as last year and to say the game was biased would be an understatement. At home V Henley they also had their own ump who turned up in a Henley top. I am not saying anything against the ump's so don't get me wrong, but I wonder at times why players get penalised for being 1st to the footy. Both ways at times.

AV umpire is a league umpire, if clubs or players have a problem should direct it to the league, but he steps up everyweek and dose both grades if AV could get a b grade umpire, Brett would be in the league rotation and umpire other games.
I think all umpires have a good side and bad side, and one thing i like with brett if there is punches thrown from players he sends of both not just one. And if you play infront he rewards the player.

I think he is good personally. Did like the way he handled the situaton in our game BPwizard when your skip became wayward. He was quick to send him off and defuse the incident.

Yeah it's funny that this is the case. You wonder whether the new interpretations of rules in the AFL has actually hurt amateur football a little bit because the umpires are not trained to make those decisions correctly.

With regard to the AV umpire, I was just a bit frustrated, which I'm sure happens to everyone. Time to move on and focus on Sacred Heart this weekend.

Big day at Smithfield on Saturday, their 100 year celebration, 20 year A Grade premiership reunion and one of their favourite sons Paul van Dongen plays his 400th senior game in the B's.
Should be a great day for the club, hopefully it's enough for them to grab the 2 points aswell.

I hope you are wrong about the last part LM but from the sounds of that it should be a good day Saturday. 400 games thats massive.
As we wont be doing presentation Saturday night back at our club, hopefully a few of the boys stick around at Smithfield for a couple of beers.

That would be good, they'll put a few jugs on for ya's. Donga is the B grade coach, he was also part of the 1992 premiership team, I think he'll be in for a big day, he was the catalyst in getting everyone back for the reunion, 3 are uncontactable and 2 have passed away but the rest have confirmed their attendance.

I have no idea, haven't seen him since about 95, I recall him refusing to wear boots and when he did he took them off to have shots at goals.
Seen plenty of forwards quite happy to have the ball not kicked in their direction when he was at full back.
Had a pretty awesome team in 92, especially after some of the schlackings they were on the arse end of in the late 80's, Westfield's folding was a major factor in Smithfield becoming a force again in the CDFA.

Any one else had any thoughts about final ladder positions?
Other than Mitchell Park at the top and Flinders Uni at the bottom, I think the rest of the comp is pretty tight.
Although Smithfield have only won 1 game so far, from what I have heard they will get better and could cause some upsets in the remainder of the season (I hope not this weekend)

My thoughts on the ladder at seasons end:

Mitchell Park

Angle Vale
Henley
TTG

Flinders Park
Modbury
Nth Pines
SHOC
Smithfield

Flinders Uni

5th spot could be any of the teams listed in that 3rd group. (Teams listed alphabetically not in particular orders)

I don't think Elizabeth lost a game all year til the GF. That couch ended up being a modification on top of a chrysler station wagon that was painted blue and white and had a panther on the side, it was called "the staff car".
I reckon resin was holding it together, how the hell it never got pulled over on a Saturday afternoon was well beyond me, usually had about a dozen people in it.

Smithfield only have two home games after round 10, they will struggle to finish better than 9th, struggled big time in getting remotely close to their strongest side on the park, I guess same goes everywhere though, their depth is hurting.

TTG still clearly top 2 in my opinion. Angle Vale have had some impressive results lately though. Henley are a smidge behind those two perhaps but could surprise given strength up above.

North Pines snapping at the heels of that bunch as well.
