But, I have been to Smithfield a few times before, albeit in a bus, but I had hoped the attitude out there may have changed. The coaches boxes are way too close to the supporters and banter can be an issue. We have a lot of "kids" in our team so should I be prepared for our round 10 clash?

Having already played you Yank Man I would have thought you would be able to form an opinion from that.

Hawkboy I also was at the game, and it was a tough hard game that should be remembered for that. Both sides played well and you blokes came out on top. So well done. Years ago sledging was an accepted part of Australian sport, I am sure a lot of older readers would remember "ya mum wears army boots" etc. The sad part is that sledging has gone to a more personal level these days and social acceptance of what is said has changed. We have worked hard at Smithfield over the last couple of years to change the perception that people have of us. This is the first time that any club has refered back to the old days. Whilst we have been changing our image, we have not changed our passion for the game, we will not back down when our players are unfairly abused, and that is a fact. I was one of the Smithfield people that came into your club after the game to buy a drink and therefore support your club. I found the people i spoke to great. Unfortunately the game cannot finish with the siren, it must finish with the SAAFL. Regardless of that good luck for the rest of the year, and hopefully we have no issues for the rest of the year. By the way the comments from fortheloveofthegame have been taken on board and I did chat our supporters on the day.

So i have spoken to a fair few people, got some different sides of the story and have my own person knowledge and opinion of the people involved in the incident on saturday. Firstly please be assured that the supporter who was very vocal has been spoken to by the football club president. This person off their own back apologized infront of the club on saturday night for the behaviour. The outburst was a reaction to a particular incident she deemed unacceptable and far from the rules of football let alone society. As far as anything racial being said, I can personally vouch for the person in question and this person while no angel is/would be the first to put up his hand should he do anything wrong.

Our club members are extremely passionate people and give us great support for which we are unapologetic, sometimes they need reminding to pull their heads in but of they feel our players are unfairly being targeted they will defend them to the hilt.

On the smithfield team, I have reports that the majority played clean fair footy with a few who had the tendancy to hit a tad late but no more than some other sides. Some players were saying sorry for some of their team mates behavior and saying "we arent like this anymore' to their team mates and trying to settle team mates down etc cant judge the majority by the minority and no team is perfect, so non issue for me. 1 incident was particularly worrying for us but as for what happens who knows.

For us, we move on and address our own backyard and will let Smithfield address theirs which seems to be happening with LM and Panther which is great.

BPwizard.... I was at the game and witnessed the verbal tooing and frooing between the two sets of supporters. And might I say that apart from some verbal sledging (that goes on between all clubs) there were no racist comments from the TTG supporters.... Yes it started as the sledging was between supporters and an Aboriginal player from Angle Vale who was hovering near the interchange gate.... This was exasperated by that said player trying to bait supporters to where he was standing to 'continue' the sledging, to the point where their coach had to bring him back to their bench.... Again no racist comments were said....

It wasnt until a particularly foul mouthed female supporter from Angle Vale began calling the TTG crowd 'rednecks' and '****' and made the specific threat of coming back later that night too and I quote 'smash all of the windows of all the cars at the club' that it went way too far....

Yes I did not agree with the TTG supporters responding to this in a verbal manner and they would have been better served biting their tongues and watching the football game, which was won by the better team on the day - Angle Vale. However for you to say there were racist comments involved is crossing the line.....

No, they played against each other in 2009 as well.
Was a pretty poor showing from Henley C's and D's I'm led to believe on Saturday.
I was expecting more from them this year after coming down from D6, but they are no threat for the premiership now imo.

Write them off at your peril. Only takes 4 or 5 quality players to come back down to make them a very formidable side.

I didn't see the game on the weekend as i had to work then was down at portland for the last quarter of the a grade game but speaking to numerous people that witnessed what happened, this is pretty much the story i have heard also. So sounds like BPwizard is talking absolute rubbish...

Mr Butterworth second hand info you heard and i think ur a load of rubbish urself to get on here and make judgement when you were not there.

Racial slur to b grade player of african appaerance was made in b grade and a few aborignal players heard the racist comment during A grade from the boundary i love it how, everyone is quick to defend there club, especially on a forum, no one is every honest if comment are made but the reaction of people show how serve the comments must have been. As for the female going off after the sledging, i dont blame her when racist comments are made, low lifes like this need to check there head in as we are in 2012 not 1950. Angle Vale Football club is like North Pines, Smithfield we have alot of indigneous players and supporters.
Funny thing is in general most people who do make racist slur a usally older men that have not adjusted there heads to currents times we live in.

As for the game off footy it was a gr8 game to watch and hard fought victory by the owls, but as mentioned early Mount and Mann were not playing but ha players had tagging roles and it worked Scott Burgess would have to be number 1 big man playing in Div 7 stoped and out tapped Dow all day, Noske had average day caught holding ball 5 times , and uncle did not like the tag on him and was fustrated at sometimes try to shrug his tag was alil dirty but thats part and parcel of try to get rid of ur tag.

Whats everyone thoughts on modbury i think there bit like the owls up and down in form and can get slaughter by injuries in the top teams.

Everyone can have an opinion thats why we on a forum but i stand by what i said early and what i heard and i gunna leave it at that as the owls had the win and look forward to a rematch with a gr8 game of footy on our dung hill.

It is quite clear that all the posts from the weekend relate to passion from clubs and supporters. It is also very clear that coaches and administrators are all on the same page to see their clubs gain credibility and respect. It is difficult sometimes to keep the supporters under control, after all it is a tough enough job just to imrove your team, but what everyone is doing is clearly working. Keep up the good work guys because Div 7 is alive and it is our responsibility to see it stays that way. :D

ok answering my own question, Fred Bloch reckons shocs joined amatuer league in 1968 but the school is older of course, which is the same year that mitchell park was established but they didnt join until 2001. so a strange rivalry there (competing neighbours for years but never actually played each other until 30 years later)

lutz henley hav won more games after 8 rounds this year than did in the full 2 years of being in div 6.

meanwhile this will upset historians but i think Thebarton oval should facilitate having parked cars around the outer, as being an amateur oval that side of field is now a ghost town. No one ever goes over there even the div 1 grand final last year the outer side was bare

I think the outer gets a decent crowd in the GF's too...but you raise a decent point marbles...there isn't many people on the outer for the minor rounds... would be a plausible idea for the minor rounds i guess.

In regards to Henley's performances in D6, D6 is in my opinion a significantly greater standard than D7. Henley also imo, has a better side this season than last year, and I would have expected them to beat a struggling SHOC's by 10 goals, and last week to have gotten closer to Mitchell Park.
Dont get me wrong, I am sure they will make finals.

Everyone can have an opinion thats why we on a forum but i stand by what i said early and what i heard and i gunna leave it at that as the owls had the win and look forward to a rematch with a gr8

game of footy on our dung hill.

BPwizard.... You couldnt put a post on a forum like that and not expect a passionate response from the TTG side.... As always there are two sides to every story and the unfortunate thing is it overshadowed a great game, which as I said on my previous response, was won by the better team on the day....

Yes your right TTG was without Mount and about 4 others through injury and promotion to B grade, which is a tough challenge for the C's as they will lose quality players to the higher grades if there are injuries/unavailabilities up the top of the tree.... I think there has been about 13 changes to that side in 2 weeks because of these issues.... Big Pete Martin even strapped the boots on a few weeks back due to a late pull out!!

I think you will find a more settled, stronger and more experienced TTG C grade side in the back nine games..... cant reveal anymore than that at this time ;)

But you are right we look forward to the return leg and a fantastic game against your lot from out north!! :D

You blokes keep bringing up the fact you have some big names playing C Grade in the last half of the year, why don't you just name them? What can the other clubs do about it? Just name em and be done with it rather than trying to be all mysterious, it's not the AFL.
I wish I was as good a cricketer as what Phantom tells me he is
