Hard to find volunteers on the weekend. Some leniency would be good.

A bit of leniency from who? You can't start a game without a Boundary Umpire. Now the 60 year old isn't the answer, that's plain dangerous. And we all know too much gets left up to too few. It's near impossible to find volunteers, But we can't allow the system to go down the tubes.

We had to bite the bullet a few years ago and pay for those jobs to be done. Umpires, Scoreboard, Timekeepers..... for some it's a Bar card, others it's a free lunch or Dinner from the club and for some it's cash. If you're not paying players/coaches huge match payments there's usually enough to go around.

I am sure youv'e tried, but for example at our club, a couple of 16 year olds share the boundary and goal umpiring duties for A's, B's & C's, they get $70 each for a Saturday, more than they could get working at Hungry Jack's and we never get fined.

If you havn't got Juniors try some local's, you know money talks and the fines are a pain in the @#$@. Even maybe an ad in the Messenger or the Local Deli or Hotel Front Bar, if you never ask you'll never know. Here's a thought what about the suspended player does the scoreboard, timekeeping, Goal Umpiring or Boundery, that will definatelly straighten out the discipline. Even take the man off the bench before you put a 60 year old in danger of a heart attack. Just trying to give a few ideas.

Running sporting clubs like ours is not easy and most members/Bar Flies have got plenty of ideas and plenty to say but not always prepared to get their hands dirty. But let's not drop our required standards cause it's too hard, cause that's when it all goes down hill very quickly and nobody wants to be part of a comp that can't get the basics available.

Yeah it was poor on our part for not having the required people but it does not happen every week so shed a tear bomberrob. Are you saying WC has never had that happen?

We have gone through a major personnel change this year, alot of new people at the club and also quite a few people departed the club. Its a work in progress trying to get the new people integrated enough into the club so they feel comfortable getting out their cars and helping out on a saturday. Did you play saturday Bomberrob?

Dude. It wasn't that bad. He was behind the scenes so it prolly bothered him a little more but the players didn't even notice.

Also, I just wanted to say that in the first 2 rounds, we've had prolly some of the best div 6 umpiring I've ever seen. They're not perfect obviously (no-one is), but in comparison to previous years, it's been quite good.

Yep, some good ideas there. I doubt Mitchell Park would be in a position to pay people to do these jobs and we manage OK with volunteers.

That $70 a week over 10 weeks = $700. Thats a lot of strapping or new footballs or some marketing funding.

I know we usually give the kids a can of coke and a Mars bar for helping out. The vast majority of the jobs get done by ex or injured players.

I guess my point was. As long as you can play footy, all the other things are nice, but not really absolutely essential. Played many games not knowing what the score was, watched many games whilst eating a burnt sausage in bread with a warm iced coffee. All in all we are out there to have fun, I thought the bagging of a club for hosting a game of football and enabling 80 odd guys the opportunity to have a run around was a bit unnecessary.

I wonder if the guy that complained offered to help out?

"two good wins by the boys yesterday at paralowie but how that mob run things is a disgrace......firstly the B grade umpire they had was not in the correct shirt.... 2.....they had no one doing the scoreboard...... 3 no match day official.......4th....no siren, had to use someones car horn.....and to top that off we had one of our supporters do the A grade score.....

Colonel Light Garden v Mitchell Park - CLG to win by about 25 goals
Kenilworth v Lockleys - Match of the round. Big oval maybe to suit Lockleys better. 21-30 points
Paralowie v Henley - Hard to tip Henley on what I saw last week, but should be a good game 11-20 points
Houghton Districts v Trinity OS - The pre seaon favourites to score there 1st win of the year 31-40 points
West Croydon v Ingle Farm - As I said last week IF not as bad as they seem but WC for me 41-50 points
