But really, there wasn't much in it. If your boundary umpire wants to keep umpiring then I would suggest he umpires kids his own age, waits until he is old enough or grows a pretty thick skin.
We are talking about senior mens football, he needs to expect some remonstration if he makes a bad call or hes in the wrong caper.
Like umpires grow on trees. Show some respect
Read my previous post. I agree 100%. The kid was fantastic under pressure, and the MP player was taken from the ground and read the riot act. At the end of the day they are both kids and require education. But seriously, this is a mans game and it requires a very special "kid" to do what he has to do. Umpires are only hard to find because we are all looking in the wrong direction. Maybe it is time for us as clubs to recruit them and the League to have training programmes. As clubs we all rely on volunteers to do our jobs but we have a bigger responsibility to the game than to throw them to the wolves.
Similiar to the game we love, kids are put into the mans game to see how they respond. Whether umpire or player, they deserve respect. Every player will stand up for a 17 year old team mate.
In my experience in div 7, the younger umpires, who are serious and not just doing it for a coke and a pie, are better than the 70+ year old umpires or the biased club umpires.
Absolutely. You know, Div 7 is the greatest developer of youth than any comp I have been associated with. Their would be 6 or 7 under 23's that would walk in to the state SAAFL team. Young umpires, young club people and young supporters, everything the league should take notice of.
