I think when talking up modbury going unbeaten this year you have to remember they are exactly belting the good sides. they are only just getting over the line. They only need 2 bad games(ala ovies 06) and its all over.. They'll fall come finals.
A winner never quits and a quitter never wins.. So who came up with the saying quit while your ahead.

I think u meant to say they arnt* belting sides...

Whose your tip then for the flag when Modbury "Fall" Bubbula?

I think what your trying to say is Modbury arnt putting four quarters of footy together, and when they do they will start to thrash teams. Good signs when you only play a half a footy and your sitting top!

there has been plenty of teams go undefeated through a season and then fall over in the finals. Whatever happened to taking it one game at a time, just keeping a lid on it etc, sounds like someone is getting carried away.

No your absolutely right Mav, a lot of teams do that! Wouldnt be a bad thing for Modbury to loose a game or 2 leading up to finals. But winning form is good form!

No they are keeping a lid on it, just saying that they arnt playing there best footy yet, thats why there not thrashing the better teams as was put.

Time will soon tell thou, just have to wait for finals!

I stand corrected.. Im tipping Ovingham to win it.. When you played them last time they had 8 missing players. No exageration either. Modbury kicked 6 goals till 3 quarter time then come home with 6 in the last. Ovingham fell asleep. They also blew a 8 goal lead against uni and lost. They beat Phos by a point after blowing a 7 goal lead. They have fallin asleep many times this year. When they finally settle as a unit they will be hard to beat. Very hard. Mark my words.

we'd all love to be in Modbury's position right now, sittin pretty a couple of games clear. like Modbury we at Ovies have hardly put 4 quarters together, looking back at the two games we lost, we started slowly, hit the lead in the 2nd or 3rd then tapered off towards the siren and got rolled by 12pts to Modbury and 10pts to Adelaide Uni. note that in both games our innaccurate kicking didn't help our cause.

so although Modbury look good now, don't get me wrong, they do. they just smashed the apparent 'significant improvers' Pembroke by close to 30 goals. We down at the cattery have got what it takes to knock them off... and i don't mind if it is the last game of the year.

at the end of the day, you don't have to smash anyone, if we won every game all year by one point are they any less of a win?!?

Interesting that you mention Ovingham were missing 8 players from there side. Modbury are a C grade side, at the moment there are around 10 injuries in the A & B grade alone. This means they lose the best 10 players! I think the best is yet to come from the Hawks. A scary thought.

just in regards to modbury, seeing as they also have teams in div 5, do they fill their c2 side first? or the div 5 and div 5 reserves first... if so, does that make c2 their e grade? if so then S&$#! haha

Modbury have 4 side div 2 div 2 res, C2 and C5

All teams are in the top 5 and upto 10 players miss out on games when at full strength. In a strong position and shows the depth of the club atm. Hopefully a few premierships can come for a solid year so far in all 4 grades(no one getting ahead of themselves of course).

Not really, I tend to like the idea of the lower clubs going at it A's alone with no C/D grade influence, think it means more to the participating clubFootball goes around in circles, was not that long ago Modbury,Woodville South and eastern park were playing div 5 footy, some people forget that....

Also i believe SAAFL gave the option for clubs a couple of clubs with 4 sides to slip into div 7. This was quickly snapped up by SHOCS (always strong C & D grade) SMOSH & Athelstone. U have to be very strong for your C & D's to be competitive in those grades. Maybe next year for the hawks.

yeah, i understand that completely. so couldn't the amateur league line up all the As Bs Cs etc granted they have started that with the C1-5 comps, what about the A grade sides that play in the 'C' comps (like Ovies and Nth Pines) wouldn't it be better to put these one team clubs into their own div rather than throwing them in with the C grades of the higher clubs... i'm sure it's not as simple as i make it out to be but do you reckon that could be an option...

henley from div 1
smosh, athelstone, shoc and uni from div 2 all have their c & d's playing in div 7
your idea may work if ovingham, north pines and wingfield can get their stuff together and organise a b grade then they can joing the five remaining a grade sides in div 7. the above sides can join tea tree gully, mitcham and modbury in a c & d grade competition - but i'd expect henley, athelstone & uni to dominate that grade if it came about due to their current position in div 7 and on their past performances over the years in c grade.
always forgive your enemies...nothing annoys them so much

i guess it's then got to do with regular numbers, i know we were looking to have two teams this year but couldn't get 'consistent' numbers on the track. we've got a lengthy list but struggled early in the year to get off the ground properly.

next year will be a different story with a few blokes set to jump on board, especially if we can shake up the finals...

changing the subject, is there anyone (from other teams not your own) that you reckon could win the medal...

any standouts from the opposition sides. i've only played a handful of games, when we played Modbury one of their wingers got a lot of it, Kenzo or something like that, red head with dreads... interesting. didn't really get the hard ball but killed us on the outside. and another shortish bloke that played on the ball got a bit of it too... not many others from any other side comes to mind.

not really many key forwards doin the job every week either...
