EFC hav always sung it on the ground and if it was a particularly important or really hard fought win we might sing it in change rooms as well just to 'stick it up em' lol

I personally don't like to sing the song if we beat an undermanned side at bottom of ladder or a win where we didn't play anywhere near as good as we should've.
I remember years ago we played someone, can't remember who. They were top by miles and we had 15 blOkes, copped a flogging and they chose not to sing their song and I always remember it as great sportsmanship.

Ok WUB here's my take on it. I hope you find this enlightening and I look forward to the topic being raised again next year!

Our whole Footy lives we've always sung in the rooms, so when we see other clubs sing on the ground we see it as "incorrect" and strange to do so. We (mostly) incorrectly see it as arrogant, when that is not the case, it's just what has always been done.

It would be exactly the same if we had sung out on the ground all the time, we'd say that it was strange to sing in the rooms.

For every reason someone comes up with to explain why it should be sung in the rooms, there will be just as good an argument to suggest it should happen on the ground, yet we probably won't validate that reason because we already make our mind up that what is happening is incorrect!

Peoples opinions on this topic will invariably be decided by whatever practice his or her club has adopted, as there is no reason to suggest this is incorrect.

Only the wandering club nomads that play all over the place and have no real emotional tie to any club, including where they are currently based, could indeed have an unbiassed opinion.

I've always been a changeroom singer, and obviously see that practice as being the correct one, bur my opinion would probably be different if I spent 15 years singing the song on the ground! I played one year in Sydney and SYD UNI sung it on the ground and I found it quite uncomfortable, but at the end of the day i also feel uncomfortable singing 'happy birthday' at birthday parties and thus choose not to partake in it.

Maybe if my club sung the song out on the ground all those years I wouldn't have the 'happy birthday' phobia??

Happy birthday to us,
we're happy we beat you.
Happy birthday to us
we're happy we beat you.
Happy birthday (insert club's name here)
Happy birthday to us.

Hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray!

Hmmmm...not much of a club song that one.
Definitely sing it in the changerooms...quietly.

NH usually sings the song in the changerooms after a win, unless it a really special victory. In my experience we've sang the song on the ground only a handful of times since I've been at NH. I'd say everybody from our club would be of the same opinion that the song should only be sang on the ground after a special victory, like a grand final win.

:ymparty: You felt uncomfortable singing a club song on the ground and you don't sing happy birthday to people. And WUB finds this all very intriguing, gee must catch up with you 2 for a beer one day.... or maybe a birthday party =))

I have such a lovely baritone that I think the spectators deserve the right for me to sing it out in the open and then again in the rooms to give it that extra bass, even if it means going solo.

I think the reason we sing it on the ground is that in our formative years as a club our old hut doubled as a bar/changerooms/medical rooms/canteen all in one so it was just easier to sing it out on the ground and we continue to do it to this day in all other grades bar our A grade and I think that is only because of the coach's personal preference. But I like my B grade boys to sing it on the ground and I know the C's and D's do too.

But I don't find any offence to a club singing their song anywhere they want and as many times as they want if they win. They won so can do what they want in my eyes...
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Agree - there should be no discussion of tribunal matters and legal procedings under any circumstances until after findings are handed down. It's a fundamental principle in law.
