No excuses about umpires, individuals make the decision to fight - and if your temper gets the better of you in a trial game might be time to think about retiring. Times are changing boys, like it or not, their is no room for violence at any level of footy anymore. So don't blame the umpires, we have all put up with some shockers at every level of footy, but an excuse to fight and get sent off? Nope, that's the players decision.
Agreed. That's not a good sign and pretty poor self control on the players part. Anything other than friendly banter on the field indicates a player who has no clue about what a trial game is about and needs to pull his head in. Fighting in a trial game - ridiculous!
Big deal if it was a trial game. Footy is a contact sport so whether it is a trial game or not fights can happen. I only was there for the first half so I missed the all in. Without even seeing it though how is it that an all in brawl starts and 4 Pooraka guys get sent off and no Birdwood guys? Well I'm glad you asked... The umpires were all from Birdwood. Before the game the oldest umpire came into the rooms and said "one of the three umpires is only 15, so cut him a bit of slack." No dramas. However after half time this senior umpire decided he had had enough and went and sat in his car for the second half leaving an already heated game to a 15 year old and another guy who looked about 20. I think we also all know that country lads don't mind throwing a fist or too! I am not saying that violence in our game should be tolerated, nor do I disagree with you saying that players make their own decisions to fight, but it only takes a late hit or a heavy tackle to spark a scuffle. Guys are full of testostarone and it will always be a possability in our game. To say that times have changed and expect not to see it anymore....your dreaming!
