Won by 9 at the end.
The start definately cost CLG.

Hi folks

If you read the Sportsbeat, you'd see I'm doing the preview/reviews this year. I'll rely a bit on what is written on here for information, but if you have anything you'd like to me to add (milestones etc) or have some stuff to say about a game on the weekend, feel free to PM me with your info.

i think football lesson is a bit strong but they did beat us in most areas. 11 new blokes in the a grade side from last year so it will take a bit of time to learn how each other plays etc.

hopefully when the return fixture comes around we put on a better showing. was impressed with BOS pressure and their numbers at the ball, also had plenty of blokes giving second third efforts and backing each other in with their skills. heard that they were missing two of their best players also which is a scary thought.

certainly wasnt a football lesson for the entire game but the first quarter was and it was impressive stuff..bos have very solid bodies, fast smalls and some mobile talls and will beat 85-90% of the teams they play this year i would say..8 goals to 2 at 1/4 time..53 inside 50s each in the end so whilst the lions steadied, the damage was done and bos may have backed off a bit with the game in hand..and we move onto rd 2 now :)

They certainly towed you up in the ruck even with their center half back rucking the majority of the game, was very impressive watching it.

Pretty even contest most of the day with the Raiders kicking a few late goals to sneak away in the end. Farmers were right in the match up until half way through the last quarter. They effectively lost thier bench before half time and I think this told in the end. A big improvement compared to last year when they were blown away too often. I expect there is still plenty of improvement to come! Liam Davis was the match winner for Raiders. Was a huge problem up forward in the first half and when the supply dried up in second qtr he went on the ball and dominated.

they definately won the clearances by a bit of a margin but i thought the ruck dual was pretty even most of the day. think the BOS on ballers were just a bit better in getting to the taps and blocking for each other and also very good at locking it in when the taps didnt go their way. just how i saw it though

the first half was one of the better halves of footy i've seen our a grade play. i missed the first 5 minutes of the first quarter but the rest of it was very good. good mix of ins adding some quality with a handful of others still to play.

i thought the clg were a little undisciplined at times with a slight push after a player got rid of the ball and a few side on / front on bumps after disposal. umps were consistent in picking it up and our lads just bounced up and went to the next contest.

looking forward to this week against k'worth at home on the relatively new deck at park 2.

i thought he was carrying water, then he blew a whistle ....
he was very ordinary. obviously learnt his umpiring craft before the rule about staying 5m away from the player with the mark / free and also interpretation of holding the ball v holding the man was interesting.

i was surprised that after the first couple of soft fad's were paid that players kept pushing their luck.

nice club facilities down at clg.

A close game all day at Trinity. Central United played a good brand of footy for majority of the game with some good work in close and accurate disposal by foot resulting in a number of shots on goal. I think at half time we had 5.12 on the board so we certainly didn't do ourselves any favours early. We only took the lead for the first time late in the last quarter when Units became a little undisciplined, giving away several free kicks. They, like Ingle Farm by the sounds of it, have certainly taken steps in the right direction to becoming more competitive. I think this Div will be a lot closer than it has been i the past. If Units keep playing the way they did on the weekend they will be more than competitive in most matches and should be around the 5 come finals time. They probably do lack a bit of depth though, as their b grade struggled.

i mentioned a few weeks a go that they will be around fifth spot, I was told they had 3/4 out on the weekend and are still waiting on a couple more clearance's.

Did the younger Hillman play for Blackfriars on the weekend? I think he wears #8...just wondering how he was recovering from a broken jaw he suffered against Mawson Lakes about four weeks back.
