Yep, he was. Lots of fun but tiring especially with the heat.

This is all assuming that the people who do the scheduling are the same people running around during Gather Round?

I'd be very surprised if they weren't.

It was “all hands on deck”, office staff included

A heap of extra work in the preceding weeks too. It doesn’t all come together by itself

They're just so unorganised.. fixturing was a shit fight - granted there was Gather Rd and I fully appreciate that - but it took forever to get Rd 1 out, another week to get rounds 2-4 out and now they're saying they cant complete any more fixturing including non-premiership grades until after Rd 4 regrading.

What a piss take! Not good enough!

Non-premiership sides should be ******* simple.. and should be done.

How am I supposed to co-ordinate things like canteen rosters etc for senior footy when i have zero visibility.

U7 to U11 grades should be allocated to either 8:30am, 9:40am or 11:20am time slots.. fill your premiership sides in following that FFS.

In fact, really is little reason why you can't do all the fixturing then make adjustments on re-grading down the track.

100% agree Bedge. In these days of AI, it makes fixturing these kinds of things even easier

Youngest daughter has gone up to U-14’s this year (as has most of this year’s team) so they’ll be playing against a lot of kids a year older, I get that. The wheel turns next year. This was on display with the opposition last Sunday, they were noticeably talker & bigger. The 23 goal margin reflected this. What irks me is we were told by someone in the know that the opposition had a number of U-16’s playing in that side as well & it had been ok’d by the league as they wouldn’t have had enough to field a side this season. Surely that’s a case of “too bad”???

On the flipside, if they don't have a girl's U16 side, it's a fair jump to ask these 14 and 15 year old girls to play seniors, so you're going to lose that pathway to women's footy. The choice then becomes either move clubs (if there is a spot available, as underage sides have a player cap), or just stop playing footy altogether.
And as you said, if the U14's don't have enough numbers either, your female pathway essentially stops at U12.
Who was the club, out of interest?

The day that 16 year old playing in an U14 league severely injures a 14 year old, it will stop. Should not have to wait until then though. Going through the SAAFL juniors for girls over the last 10 years I have no confidence they will fix it.

I doubt you'd ever get a play down for a 16 year old to play in U14s...

U16 players can mean girls are currently 14, 15 or 16, he did mention that they were U16.

Anyway, that's semantics, you would hope the governing body would take all this into account

Happens in the boys comps too and wasn't well monitored.

I seen a kid a few years ago of decent size win the medal as an O/A player and was still allowed to play in the same team the following year.

He played against my lad one Friday night and he gave a couple of rib ticklers to one of my sons team mates just near the boundary line of where I was standing. The recipient got up and said "Hey, stop hitting me" to which the O/A lad replied "Why, what are you gonna do about it?"
"Probably nothing" was the next response, I shouldn't find it funny but I did.

It kinda sucked as we had an average team and we had a tall kid marginally overage but had never played before, he wasn't very good but he was declined and forced to play in the age group above ours, they already had 24 players and were generally top 3-4 of the div 1 comp...........the kid quit after a few rounds.

I've had a brief look at the age group history of a few of the players in question and it's hard to quite gauge just yet, I didn't look too thoroughly though.

Going slightly off topic, but the entire junior league is a mess. Every year clubs manipulate the re-grading system to ensure their boys or girls get to sandbag a div2 or div3 premiership rather than compete in the div they were entered in. Should not allow relegation/promotion during season and base the next years divisions on previous years results.
