Eat my words i will.
keep the two forwards quite and there midfield would have to be best in div 7, carved up Angle Vale Yesterday, very well drilled team all over the ground.

Mitchell Park are definitely the team to beat. Had some handy ins during the offseason and their depth has improved significantly.

On the other hand, again SHOC have no one from their Grand Final team playing again and just making the 5 could be a battle. But after yesterday's hardfought win, things are looking up.

Congratulations to Modbury FC for getting rid of last years biggest jerks in the SAAFL. RIP Flexers and please don't come back. No one likes you

No elite ruckman (as much as Schneids has improved - he still has a way to go and is undersized) mean TTG have the edge in the centre.

Noske, Mount, Uncle and Dow as a starting combination is as good as it gets at this level, in fact it would be competetive at much higher levels.

Agree with what you say morell. But elite ruckman get $500 plus a game anywhere. At this level ruckman are only as good as their next injury. Havn't seen Dow, but they don't get much better than Burgess from Angle Vale. He is a big clever unit. But they overuse him.

True that, Schneids was awesome on the weekend against a quality opponent, conditions did help him though.

On another note, i am a bit dirty on whoever puts the scores in! Kicked two goals in the magoos as a late replacement and was all gloaty .... and they didnt register mine :( picked up everyones elses though.

SAAFL Division 7 & D7R (2012)

Postby Bigshow82 » Sun Apr 22, 2012 9:06 pm

Was one of the longest and hardest drives back to the club from Sacred Heart Middle School yesterday. Left the ground with a real sense that we let that one slip. You won't win many games kicking 17 behinds and that was the case yesterday. Final scores SHOC 10 goal 8 points Nth Pines 8 goal 17 points. We now have to re-focus and turn our attention to TTG who appear to be in good form.

Bit pis.....ed you didn't win that one Bigshow. Big fish that got off the line. TTG wont get any easier cos I reckon they are the best team in Div7. Hope you regroup quickly and have your midfield ready for the best. Heads up.

well we found out one thing on the weekend!!!
Club umpires don't work in Div 7.

Having one SAAFL umpire and a club umpire is not ideal. It was a mess, one was too touchy and the other was just letting anything happen. The worst part is the club umpire was doing his own forward line in the last qtr. Hope this doesn't happen again. :?

Did you have a problem with his decision making or lack of? I heard that he let the game flow and gave you guys as many frees etc. as he gave Smithfield.
He was only meant to be doing the B's aswell, fair effort to back up two matches in a row without prior notification.

If it was the same bloke who umpired Smithfield's reserves last week against us I would be really surprised. Thought he was about the best home umpire I've seen, he was even a mile better than the 2 a grade umpires. Let it go, as long as their was no head contact, and was very consistent.

Agreed. Smithfield's B grade umpire was very good.

Also, well done to the Angle Vale umpire who did the two games on the weekend. Though he umpired very well - albeit with a couple of strange ones late in the magoos, but you're going to get that.

To have the courage to send one of your own off for what was a pretty ordinary act was appreciated and cooled a potentially heated situation down.

I'm a bit surprised Henley didn't win by more on Saturday, considering they had Ryan Kelly and Sam Fairclough!!

It got to the stage where the SAAFL was evening things up and to me thats not on. He was talking to me during the game and telling me about the head high stuff he was letting go.
There were a few that were not real flash. I did ask the club umpire about one free and he said to me "Oh well your 10 goals up" even the blokes from Smithfield that were near me couldn't believe it. Don't get me wrong i admire him doing two games and we are familiar with club umpires as we have come from the C grade comp but to have a club ump doing his own forward line is a bit much.

Club umpires do the best they can, but it's not ideal. Doing two games can see things go pear shaped late in the A grade games when they get tired. If the league is serious about going down to a strong Div 8 then it is high time they put some real effort into umpire recruitment. Div 7 is a good comp and deserves neutral and competent umps. One's who maybe don't watch the scoreboard, just the game.

He reported their A grade coach a few years who subsequently got a 2 match suspension, he wont put up with shit no matter who you play for, does a great job IMO, you know where you stand.
As with any umpire, can make some decisions that may baffle you but overall does a fine job.

If it was the SAAFL appointed umpire that I'm thinking of he would've found 50 free's per quarter. Well I wasn't there but I will pass on your criticism to him. He's a good bloke with limited umpiring experience, I've always appreciated constructive criticism and I'm sure he'll take it on board too, they are a much improved club who are trying to gain respect from their opponents both on and off the field, they have a very disciplined committee who have made the place a good place to take the family.

Please don't get me wrong my shot is at the leauge as i know it is difficult being a club ump. If we can't have 2 SAAFL umps for any given game then maybe we should look at 2 club umps. It's no good having one bloke who pays every free and another who is used to letting the play go a bit. I am all for letting it go but sometimes that can cause major issues. As for Smithfield i thought they were mainly good lads apart from the odd tussle it was played in the right spirit.
