Pag wrote:Thanks mate, it was definitely one of the best wins I've been involved in. We were almost 4 goal down at quarter time and we were totally outplayed in the first quarter. To the boys credit we stuck at it and held on in the last quarter no bench which was even more pleasing.

No surprises with PAOC v Iggies.

Athelstone just going on on their merry way.

Pembroke v Walkerville was closer than I expected, Pembroke looked awesome last week.

I don't know what happened with PNU and Flinders Park, maybe Lisa can shed some light for us...

Firstly... a big smile on my face on Sunday morning when I saw Salisburys score...Congratulations to Pag and the boys....it was only a matter of time I thought... :partyman:

On a sourer note

IT WAS THE LOSS WE HAD TO HAVE

We played poor football and didnt deserve to win, simple as that. full credit to the Flinders Park Boys who battled right to the end..we got within a point towards the end of the last quarter, but they responded quickly, just like they had all day.

We've tended to go missing a bit in the 1st half (as pag can vouch for) over the last few weeks and it came back to bite us in the ass, as we ended up playing catch up football.

No excuses from this end, but we didnt have Scott, Kano, Staggy and Richo, and tragically just on half time Nick Patfulls Humerus was snapped in half after being sat on and was carted to hospital. He has surgery today, he sent us a photo of his x-ray, I'll ask him if I can post it. That in itself left a bit of a blank up forward, especially without Staggy there as well. Billy Just couldn't hold the ball to save his life and there was a 4 man defence on Jolly.

When I say it was the loss we had to have, I think a bit of complacency has set in amongst the group seeing as we've only lost 2 games of football in the last year and a half. No-one likes to lose but I think mentally we'll see a completley different outfit run out against Athelstone this week, and after the match the boys were finally able to highlights faults in our game which will be worked on during the week, cos its hard to see faults when you're winning ( and hopefully Barry wont be umpiring...I have full respect for umpires and dont think that I"M in any position to complain...but he's losing the plot a bit i think).

Wake Up?

Postby swingman » Tue Jun 27, 2006 10:18 am

Wake up athelstone coaching staff……
Are you all blind to the fact that kevin hopper is a disruptive influence to the side.
Half back flanker playing on the attacking side of the ball looking for the easy receive. (On ballers doing the same)
Hopper expects to be given the ball but is very loathe to give off weather in trouble or not. Come on blublurag and cruzn9 what have you two say about that. Or are you 2 as blind as the coach.
Kevin hopper is not in the best 12 players at athelstone & yet he is captain.

I rekon he goes alright and I have seen him play some very good games !!!

Newsflash swingman - Athelstone have only lost one game this year and are sitting on top of the ladder so the coaching staff have obviously got there mix of players correct at this stage !!!
It is what it is !!!

I have noticed that aswell, But leave it to the coaching panel to do something about it.
(what can i say he loves kicking goals)
The team is going along nicely so i guess you cant complain with that issue.

The club was very lucky to get this player -
Hasnt this bloke been a great pickup for the club..... Justin has slotted in nicely in the backlines but has also played some footy up forward. One player you can play anywhere & he will
dominate that position...
He had a role last week to hold eastern parks #10 & did a great job holding him & creating run out of the backlines....

Great to have you at the athelstone footy club Justin 'Roy' sheedy.-

Well said Barbara.

Ive played against hoppy for years and apart from being a good bloke he also is a very talented player. Anyone who kicks ten in a match must have some ability!!

Yeah I reckon it is carey. Payne didn't play when we played them this year but last year I'm pretty sure he wore #10.

Yep...it was Payney.

Hasn't been as good this year as the past couple. Still, one of EP's better ones to take care of. Matty Paul is the other.

Last weeks game Athelstone vs Eastern Park

Postby cruzn9 » Fri Jun 30, 2006 10:06 am

What can i say about Eastern's Parks effort's against athelstone last week......

Impressive, Hard at the ball, Fair Play, Played for one another & followed coaches instructions.

Ok 'Yes' they were belted, But for those who were there how good was easter park in the first qtr but looks like they ran out of steam after half time. If only they could convert there first qtr into 4 qtrs they would have given athelstone a real good run for there money.

They werent punching, they werent fighting - they were putting there head over the ball & definitely was a different side then last time athelstone played them..... (all they wanted to do last time was hit players - & thats not football)

I have alot more respect for eastern park & wish them all the best for the finals....
When there fit & running well i would consider them a better side then walkerville.

Your kiss of death hasn't worked so far, so you should have just backed yourselves...i think we only got picked twice in the sports beat, oh well, you know what they say... Australia loves an underdog!

Eastern Park, Old Iggies, Pembroke (unless they play as shite as we did) and Walkies..oh and us

I know Barry is a "nice guy" but is there any way we can ask him to RETIRE?
Umpiring from the centre square ALL DAY is just not doing the job in a correct manner. You cant make decisions from 60 mtrs away and expect to get the respect of the players and supporters.
The fella is well and truly past it.

On another subject I was wondering if anyone has questioned the Mid School Holiday break? Is this to give the college and university sides some relief as their players are all on holidays. I know that they are a "protected species" but come on.
It all seems a bit strange.
Perhaps one should question the SAAFL heirarchy as to where their allegiances lie.

Games this week...

02:15 PM Prince Alfred OC v Payneham NU Proposed Park 9, 44
02:15 PM Pembroke OS v Eastern Park Proposed Haslam Oval Pembroke School, 43
02:15 PM Salisbury v Walkerville Proposed Salisbury Oval, 61
02:15 PM Athelstone v Flinders Park Proposed Torrens Valley Oval, 3
02:15 PM Pooraka v Old Ignatians Proposed Lindblom Park, 51

I'm tipping PNU, Pembroke OS, Salisbury, Athelstone, Old Iggies

I reckon Salisbury are a chance to avoid relegation, they have certainly put in a few good performances lately. Pembroke OS have definitely improved over the past few weeks (still, Eastern Park will like the size of Haslam Oval).
