Most picked them to be relegated last year. Still can't go past the Goodwoods, Gaza's and by the sounds of it Henley for this year.

They did perform well last year but if I recall Darren Mead said at the start of last season they would be the measuring stick for Div 1 in 2007. They did okay but I wouldn't have thought they were the measuring stick. And only from what I've read on this site they seem to be losing some players and also the coach has gone. Not sure who their new coach is for next season and who they have recruited for 2008.

Yeah Mead said that after a trial game,i think coz Broadies beat them, but the Tigers do have a good record against Gaza.(not just trials)
Broadview have ex Angaston coach i think??don't know his name tho.
Recruiting will be interesting. How many will come from the Barossa & how many of them are up to A1?

Ha, ha!! They did that a bit last season hey for whatever reason! Always a weird time of year, can never really be sure of anyones intentions. Some guys go out to a few clubs trying to get the best offers, or give their word that they'll definately play only to turn around 3 weeks before the season starts and say they are staying at their current club. Must give clubs the s&^ts!!

Have heard on the grapevine of a couple guys who won't be there next season, but who knows. Will be interesting to see how many players they grab from the magpies. Always amazes me some of the Port Magpies players that think they are good enough for reserves footy and can hardly crack it in Div 1 or 2. Not sure what the deal is but you'd have to think some of these players get some cheap games to try and get them to comit to the club.

As a player I'd much rather play for a club that has no alignment to an SANFL club!

Would the players be following Phillips though? I've heard he wasn't always that popular with his players when at the Magpies.

A couple of Reserves players went to Imps in the RMFL i think because they didn't like his coaching techniques.

Never mind,it just annoys you when its one team they like 2 target & i don't think Seaton needs a repeat of that again.I hear Greg Phillips is on the prowl & targeting some ex Port players, inparticular Cutting.Jordan
from Salis Nth,so watch out for the 10 or so players you guy's have from there.Gates would be one I'd say 2 watch, the big man would have some $$$ to throw around,as we know whats in those glass houses up Virginia way!

Agree FM, pretty rude poaching 4 players from the same club! If you take away Peucker, Christofis and Lynch I reckon Districts had a better team the year before in 06 than they did last year. Wouldn't have won the flag without them. There onball and ruck division was heaps better in 06 than 07.

Your on the money their GWW,a couple of Seaton players were in the same boat from Ports.
Its funny what money can do tho,ive seen it before, all of a sudden the past is forgotten & they jump back on board with him.
I heard their were current players at Magpies ready 2 walk if Phillips got reappointed, some just rode out the year.Maybe the Magpies should of looked at this alot earlier, they wouldn't have lost the youngsters they did 2 the country & amatuers.

Although-
there are alot of lads 2day that think their better than what they really are & thats where Shaz was coming
from in terms of when they go 2 amatuers especially, they wonder why they can't get a kick.
It gets 2 some of their HEADS being at a league club.

Would s&*t me to tears if I was still playing!! You get guys that haven't done a pre-season with your club, rocking up for the last trial game and getting a game in the A-Grade once the season starts (often so they'll stick around once they realise they are no chance in the SANFL). Don't know the players, haven't practiced set plays, don't even really care what club they play for etc. Definately think it's more of a hindrance to the club than a positive, having players switching between SANFL and SAAFL all year. I'd say train pre-season with SANFL club, play a couple B-Grade games and see how the club operates and how the A-Grade play, then make a decision stick with SANFL on the chance that you'll be playing, or cut ties and commit to SAAFL footy.

I have no idea why you'd want to play SANFL Reserves footy anyway, apart from pumping up their ego's by being able to say I play out at Norwood or Port or Sturt. I'd only play Reserves if was at least a chance of playing more than 50% of games in the league team, or if it was my first year out of U/19 and I wanted to hang around a couple of years to see if I was good enough for league.

TTG start their pre-season on Monday 26th November at 6:15pm.
Meet at the club (Steventon Dve, Banksia Park), and bring runners and a towel.

All existing players and any new players are more than welcome.

Any queries PM me.

Cheers,

Goodies to use a few players from all accounts.

But they'll probably pick up enough to recover the situ.

A few fringe players by all accounts.
But from what I can gather there seems to be an undercurrent of disastisfaction coaching wise.
I'm not sure it'll hurt Goodies too much though.

that will happen when fringe players are not getting picked in more games that they think they should. Still you can't argue with Goodys record (3 in a row) the selections have been proved correct.

also their B grade did alright this year so the depth must be good. any fringe players leaving will only open the door for some others to get their opportunity.

I heard the Wilson boys are just about to put pen to paper if they haven't done so already with Goolwa. Is this true Dogwatcher?

Wilson boys look like they'll be on board at The Saints in the GSFL in 08, also in the Riverland forum they are saying that Louis Turner of Goodwood is heading up there somewhere!
