******* shit show

I sit here and remember the meeting about the AdFL taking over juniors and how some of the self interested parties kybwashed it by alleging the AdFL just wanted to grab their associations' funds (of which there was SFA and the AdFL had/has plenty of money)

Same people eventually had to do a deal with the SANFL
The AdFL probably dodged a bullet.

a few years ago my youngest was in the U13 girls and we were getting smashed by 10+ goals each week in div1. regrading request from div1 to div2 rejected, Club asked the junior league director to come out and assess, which she did and watched the first 10 minutes of Q1, saw we were 1 goal down and left saying we are in the correct div. end of the game we lost by 70pts.

Yeah, this is an absolute circus, has been going on since the SANFL took over, to be honest

U16 players can mean girls are currently 14, 15 or 16, he did mention that they were U16.

Anyway, that's semantics, you would hope the governing body would take all this into account

I've had a brief look at the age group history of a few of the players in question and it's hard to quite gauge just yet, I didn't look too thoroughly though.

You're allowed over age kids in the SANFL U16s & U18s, right up to state teams. It certainly can get a bit messy with no clear guidance on who's eligible and who's not

Spargo wrote:Youngest daughter has gone up to U-14’s this year (as has most of this year’s team) so they’ll be playing against a lot of kids a year older, I get that. The wheel turns next year. This was on display with the opposition last Sunday, they were noticeably talker & bigger. The 23 goal margin reflected this. What irks me is we were told by someone in the know that the opposition had a number of U-16’s playing in that side as well & it had been ok’d by the league as they wouldn’t have had enough to field a side this season. Surely that’s a case of “too bad”???

We have a couple of overage girls in our U14's - but they're genuinely no good and very raw.. anyone over age and capable i've encouraged to go to Women's because I think that standard isn't very good anyway.

My frustration is we were encouraged to put a girls U8 side in, now i've got to argue for playdown permits for tiny girls who have never played, and U8s is non contact FFS

One of the most uncomfortable games I coached was a boys junior trial game where our u15's played against another teams u16's, I had kids as young as 13 playing against kids that had already turned 16 who were almost fully developed. I can only imagine how that might look in a female game.

They say it might stop the progress of girls to senior footy, but what about the younger girls who say they aren't playing again because of what they face?

This happened to our U12s a few years back - were in the premier div off the back of a couple clubs tanking games in the lower division.

We constantly got smashed and asked to be regraded because we were miles out out depth.. were told we were in the correct div and we should embrace it... there was a team in the lower division (won the flag) averaged 7 points against per game.

End of the season half the team left the club.

That year I was talking about, we played Marion and on Marion's bench was about 5 girls in tracksuits. We somehow beat Marion that day, and Marion got relegated out of div1 to div2. Girls on the oval were telling our girls that the 5 girls were being rested and they are state players and were rested to avoid staying up in div1. Rested for the last game before relegation/promotion... and Marion went on to dominate div2 and win the flag easy.

Say what you want about her.. but facts are that SANFL Jnrs at least ran a lot smoother when she was involved, and has gone backwards since she left..

.. and AdFL feels organised and communication / updates are good since she's arrived.

Not sure if this belongs here but my lad played juniors last night at Woodville Oval.

Two things. Firstly, the SANFL harp on about not moving junior comps to Tuesday or Wed night because of college comps, yet this game was played on Tuesday AND there are games on Wed and Thurs night because of college comps - so it can be done.

Secondly, the standard of umpiring was terrible last night. 61 free kicks (35 in the first half) was proof that the game is over-officiated. Then there were maybe 6 25m penalties awarded. The best one was one of the North players standing on the mark, feigns to pick up the ball and retrieve it to the Eagles player and was given a 25m penalty for not returning the ball.

Its all about making College players available for as many SANFL games as possible, they now only miss 5-6 out of an 18 game season, with the SANFL comp going into 2 weekends off after these games. SANFL and College comps work together now, where in the past it has been the opposite.

And they also incorporate the BYE after the minor rounds are down before the finals so that Colleges can play their intercol games over that weekend which then allows the SANFL 16s and 18s to start finals with a full strength team

Umm, that's my point. Has been all along. If you want the best kids playing 16's and 18's don't clash with college games. But yet the SANFL tell us that they can't schedule games mid week. Clearly, they're not telling us the truth.

So in summary, my recommendation was that, when college is NOT playing, schedule SANFL games on the weekend. When college is playing, schedule them mid week. Then you get the best kids playing year round. PS. Not great if your kid is kid no 30 on the list, but that's up to the club to manage the workloads.

It also means that kids not playing college footy can play for their community club and help them out!

That's a great way for elite kids of that age to burn out quickly, playing SANFL mid-week and college on the weekend for the entire season.

16, 17 & 18 year old boys are waaaay bigger than when we were that age, the kids need time to rest!

SANFL clubs rely on volunteers its complete impracticable to expect SANFL junior volunteers to consistently give up there mid week days in todays hectic lifestyles so the colleges can play bruise free footy on a Saturday afternoon. *insetr high pitched 'Go Hearts", "Go Kings" "Go Saints" here...

If anything school sport should go back to the old days of Wednesday afternoon sports competitions
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

That's why I said it's up the clubs to manage the workload.

And it's not the entire season either.

Some kids play limited time, or are named as an emergency for their SANFL club but can't play for their community club on the next day. We have seen scenarios where kids might play none, or a few minutes only for their SANFL club but are not allowed to take the field for their community club.

So essentially these kids miss out on any game of footy on a weekend. My lad has said he doesn't want to play for his community club this weekend, which we as parents respect and will advise the community club. But it should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
