Has anyone heard if there has been some late withdrawals for the U/13 grade this year?

I hear 2 have gone in as many days

very disturbing if it is true

Pretty sure i heard on radio this morning, hope valley and ingle farm, was only half paying attention so may not be right. My lad played a trial against Hope vallley couple weekends ago at houghton (u/14s) and they seemed to have enough players in that grade, even though salisbury belted them by about 20 goals

Smithfield may be withdrawing aswell, depends on the numbers tonight, makes it hard when there's a $750 fine for any withdrawals after this weekend.

No issue with Ingle Farms U/13s.
My son plays in it.

Was at a League game today and was told by someone that they heard Andrew Jarman on the radio this morning saying a couple of clubs have folded their Junior sides.

The person couldn't give me club names unfortunately. I hope this is not the case, we need kids out there playing footy

North Pines closed shop on juniors in the last week or so, would have been one of those mentioned.

was aware of them, see an earlier post, i mentioned that to the person who told me and they said it wasn't them that was mentioned. Looking at the Divisions issued by the NEMJFA late last week, i cant see any other clubs that may have gone so perhaps it may just be the odd side here and there and not Junior Clubs, well lets hope so, need as many clubs and kids kicking a footy out there as possible :D

There are 11 age groups in NEMJFL, not including Auskick and the 2 girls teams. All clubs advertise that they will field at least 1 team in every age group but only 5 or 6 clubs actually do. Some clubs may have 13 or 14 players for a team but the penalties for a forfeit are too tough to risk nominating a team. Maybe NEMJFL should have an equal numbers rule. i.e. if a team turns up with 12 kids then the other team can only play 12 or lend the opposition some players. As I understand it now if one team, in under 11s or older, has 14 or fewer players then they forfeit the match, which hardly encourages kids to participate. 2 clubs were reprimanded a few years ago because one team lent the other a player in an under 11s match, and that club was charged with playing an uncleared player!
Finally, if Pines have scrapped their juniors then it's tough to get back. Greenacres and Kilburn did that a few years ago and are having a tough time re-establishing kids footy.

Pearcey there are rules in vogue similar to what you have posted, without going into my records i think from memory it is 14 or so for the junior sides to even up and so it should be, we had it last year where we had a number of more players than the opposition and supplied the players for them and will continue to do so this year. Not sure what we are doing right in our neck of the woods but we are heading towards 275 kids this year with only really 1 side under numbers to get on the park (U6's)

With no offence to the CDJFA or the NEMJFA, just wondering how much the amalgamation has made an issue re travel for families out that way, know that the committee are working hard to cut down on travel for all sides.

I"m off to Melbourne next week to spend some time with the Management of a Junior Footy club over there to see how they run things over there, their rules are different to ours as they play the modified version i believe up to Under 13's but know that they are not struggling for numbers etc

When I was last involved in 2009 14 was the minimum number of players to form a team but opposition teams weren't allowed to lend players in Under 11s or older. Hopefully that's changed now.
As Eastern Park has been in the comp for years families should be ok with travel, although getting Under 6's out of bed in the middle of winter for a 30k trip is not always easy.
Vic has Auskick rules up until Under 13s as you say. I used to be opposed to 'soft' footy for the younger teens but it puts a lot of parents at ease and the numbers in Vic, NSW and Qld are booming.
I'm not sure if Tas has has those rules but I see one of their junior leagues around Hobart has around 20 clubs and over 200 teams in an area with a much smaller population than the NEMJFA CDJFL area.
