Do they still replay games in this league on the local tv station like they used to in the 80's?

Affraid not I don't know why the league don't do this now.
This would probably boost the league stature up again, like replaying match of the round on every sunday afternoon.

South Augusta will get over the Squids purely because I hate the Squids!
Who won the last encounter and how long till finals?

Gentlemen the SGL has lost a team in recent years and the pace and depth of the league has dropped right off. How do the locals see this being fixed?

Is Pirie big enough anymore for 3 clubs?
Should Pirie teams join Northern Areas League and Pt Augusta join Whyalla?
Should SGL completely join Whyalla League (as per past history) and make a super peninsula league that can be televised on local tele and with so many local men involved hopefully bring sponsorship from local industry?

Footy mad why do you hate Ports? I played with the club in the eighties and they were a great club on and off the field. Very financial with great facilities and good decent people. How are they faring nowdays? I know they had a really successful era under was it Bob Boston?

Ports won flags in 97,98,99 & 02,03,04 under Bob Boston.

I played in the losing team in that Grand Final you are referring to FM

Ports and South are almost certain to play off in the Grand Final this year.
They are both a fair way ahead of the rest of the competition at the moment, and it should be a belter of a Grand Final.

Otherwise FM I think your comments are correct about the league not being as strong as it used to be, with some teams not having a lot of depth. Nevertheless there are still some very good players running around in the SGL. South's Bradley Amos, Ports' ruckman Michael Burford and Centrals skipper Matt Keatley would be standout players in any country competition.

Matt Keatley started his footy at Jamestown, was always going to be super player as he was a stand out at senior and junior colts.

I agree PPL - still some quality for sure! What do you think of possibly mergers with other leagues? What do clubs like the Lions do to climb the ladder?

What number did you wear in that GF?

I wore No 11 in the GF. Came on off the bench after that big fight just before half time when Sadler, Bassani and others got hurt.

I'm not sure combing with other leagues would work. Northern Areas is very strong by itself, and the problem for SGL clubs joining with Northern Areas is that the SGL Clubs dont have affiliated Netball teams.

Smaller clubs like Lions simply need to be a bit more proactive in recruiting to be competitive. Having said that, Lions have a very strong Under 18 team this year, which should take the flag. Lots of future A Graders in that squad which should see Lions a bit more competitive in years to come.

Great to see Lions finish the season on a high note, defeating West at Port Augusta on Sunday.
Centreman Marc Congdon and 16 year old Ruckman Brad Ley best for the Port Pirie side.

Also interesting to see Ports' woes continue, losing at home to Central Augusta. South Augusta would have to be firm favourites for the flag now.

Going on previous form, South should account for Ports.
Double team Burford and you kill off alot of Ports' potency.
I think the forward line options for South, McInniss, Amos, Shillabeer, with Hannes, Dohnt and Struck in the midfield, they've got too much firepower for any real challenge.
West should lose simply because of their stupid coloured guernsey.
Any team with Matt Keatley in it has a good chance of winning.
Superstar.

I was at the newy in Pirie a few weeks ago when the Hells Angels were in town, and ol Skater Marsland was in fine form, as always.
Anyway, he must have bumped into one of them, who proceeded to beat the living shit out of skater.
Just checking to see if anyone knows if he got through it and make sure the bikie didn't go out the back and stab him.
On another note, ol Norm Wombat is back in form.
Good to see Norm come out, he's usually a shy little creature.
Tough unit though, loves to burrow in under the packs.

PPL, How's Flemo going this year with Ports?
