SA Country Football Combine

Last year 43 players (28.67%) of the players who participated in the SA Country Football Championships were recruited to other clubs, only 7 of these went to the SANFL. This has effectively become a recruiting meat-market. If you want money it is in your best interests to be playing in this carnival, a number of big spending clubs send delegates to scout and few, if any, players do not receive an offer of some sort before the following season.

With the points system now restricting the number of players able to be brought into a club, the clubs now need to be more selective on the players they recruit, this ensures that the price these clubs have to pay rises as they each bid for the services of the better players. The Country Football Championships collects together 150 of the most highly sought after players across the state into one location under the watchful eyes of recruiters.

From the 2013 championships, there are rumours around the following players:

Central Zone
Lachlan Michael (Balaklava) - South Clare
Nigel Osborn (CMS Crows) - Woodville-West Torrens
Rowan Prior (Eudunda-Robertstown) - Virginia
Angus Bruggemann (Mallala) - South Clare Port Reserves
Joel Montgomerie (Mallala)

Eastern Zone
Sam Elliott (Barmera Monash)
Jack Selfe (Barmera Monash)
Jock Cameron (Barossa District)

Eyre Peninsula Zone
Reece Francis (Tasman) - Ramblers
Dillon Montgomerie (West Coast Hawks) - Marble Range

Murray South East Zone
Luke Harrowfield (Imperial) - Nairne-Bremer
Tyson Wait (Imperial) - Paskeville
Joel Kay (Rambler) - Yeelanna

Northern Zone
Darren Shillabeer (Central Augusta)
Thomas Underwood (Port)
Matt Woolford (Southern Flinders) - Central Augusta

Southern Zone
Tyson Davis-Neale (Encounter Bay)
Callum Wilson (Goolwa-Port Elliot)
Jason Farrier (Reynella) - Keith
Mathew Hodge (Victor Harbor) - Jervois
Timothy Boyd (Victor Harbor) - Kaniva

Anyone heard any others?

If these blokes are good enough, there'd be recruiters talking to them anyway.
It's always been the way.

Not sure there is anything in this. Some of these relate to job shifts and changed living situations. I reckon you would find the final actual % will be lower than the turnover in most country football clubs. Have a look at the enormous clearance list for most leagues on this site.

The SA Country Football Champs can definitely be a recruiting ground for the SANFL clubs (think Central District's Jason McKenzie) but in reality, the reason many of the players participating aren't already at SANFL clubs is due to things like job, family, distance, etc. - things that can't easily be changed. Whether they play in the SACFC or not, they've usually been on their zone's club radar.
I can see a case for later maturing young blokes who may still be keen to get onto an SANFL list to show their wares for sure and of course everybody's looking for talls, so the carnival can facilitate that.

I dont think ramblers would be traveling to the country champs to find out francis is a good player, or if anybody else on the ep is a good player
