I've seen play, or known of, a few accomplished footballers over the years who finished their careers at a country footy club. By accomplished I mean blokes who did well in either the SANFL/VFL/AFL/WAFL, and then around the age of 30 or so, played a year or 2 at a country club.
I don't mean players who returned to their junior club at the end of their career like Greg Whittlesea or Ron Hateley, because these are always fairly inevitable. Also, not referring to young blokes who played a handful of games in the SANFL but then go to the country for dollars whilst still in their early 20's.
The ones I can think of:
Victor Harbor - Clayton Lamb, Peter Maynard, Gavin Walsh, Tony Symonds, Ross Gibbs
Langhorne Creek - Simon Feast
Encounter Bay - Bob Beecroft, Tony Modra, Jim West, Daryl Rady
Jervois - Max Parker, John Roberts, Lindsay Heaven, Mark Donovan
Mannum - Ray Huppatz (player/coach), Clive Waterhouse
Meningie - Stephen Copping, David McKechnie, Lester Ross Snr
Imperials - Stuart Totham, Des Hicks, Shaun Hannam
Ramblers (MB) - Andrew Underwood, Jody Arnol
Paskeville - Paul Northeast
Mt Barker - Adam Fisher
Robe - Jim Jess
Lucindale - Nigel Fiegert
Padthaway - Stephen Sims, Lester Ross

When did Kerley play in the Riverland? Wasn't that the end of his career?

I'd say Kenny Karpenny after going off on a stretcher and then coming back on and kicking a couple of vital goals
