Just been through all the best player lists. Looks like there are some hard luck stories for the carnival team.
EP lucky Pedler,Fetus,Gregory,Habner unlucky Larwood (in best 3 times) Murphy, James
Murray not bad
Central lucky Wilson unlucky Salter
S/East ok
Southern lucky Dawe, Pedler, Gordon unlucky Russell
Northern unlucky Scott in best 4 times with 2 bests although as a team very ordinary
What are your thoughts?

Straight Shooter - Wouldn't read too much into best players list when picking team of the carnival especially with player rotations in that sought of carnival.

The side was picked by an official from each zone and an SANFL rep.

From EP Pedler, Feltus, Gregory, Habner all had great carnivals and all deserved their spot in the team of the carnival.
Larwood good carnival but not quite.
James very unlucky, was outstanding on Sunday easily EP's best on that day but didn't do too much on Saturday and I have a feeling the team was pretty close to being picked on Saturday night.
Brodie Murphy had a pretty good carnival. Only 19 yo and will certainly be pushing for State Country selection in future years. He and Matt Parker would have certainly caught the eye of a few SANFL scouts.

Northern Cities weren't too flash. Mark Scott played on the ball and had a very good carnival, no disrespect to him but I don't think he is one of SA Country's better players at the moment.

From Southern I am sure "The Indian" would have been furious that Russell didn't get picked in the side.

Usually refuse to agree with Cove07 on anything, but straight shooter, if you scroll up from your original post you will see Pedler & Habner were equal 3rd in voting for player of the carnival. Lucky to make the team of the carnival? i think not.

boags. Just remember who picks player of carnival. Umpiers have a job to pick their own nose. I would have thought best player lists would have been a truer reflection of form as selected by own teams. Always good for discussion. The bottom line is the team still is missing out. They should be up the Gold Coast strutting their stuff. Only state in Australia not to bother. Even Kiwis can make it over. Grass roots footy what is going on.

come on cove7 I heard SANFL reps. were as scarce as knowledgable Port Power followers. One thing I did here was the side was picked before the last game had started. What a joke. The best 2 sides last game (the final) counted for nothing. You would have been rapped if you had a good carnival and a BOG in the granny and missed selection because the organisers were on the turps for the last??? See the Vics. one both divisions. Poor old SA. Funny if all players stayed away for the mickey mouse game promised early next year.

The name that I saw was Anthony Murgatroyd. This guy has been about for years, obviously still playing good footy. West Adelaide tried to get this bloke down for years- just wanted to stay in Broken Hill- while I have never seen him play, all the talk is that he could have done anything

He was a gun. He has retired from rep level though. Not picked for MMB this year.

that was ten years ago now and has been in the best pretty much every second week of his life.
like a lot of country footballers, city is not for them but he definitely could have been a superstar in the SANFL.
