O.K, time to stop pumping tyres, and flingin' shit on eachother.
Time to give credit where credit is due...
I'd be interested to learn of some opposition players, who might, or might not be regarded as really good players, that you have found it hard to get a kick on, or have had a tough time stopping them from getting the footy...
1, Gayffer (Mickies brother) - Enc Bay : Bigger, stronger and a bloke who just did not care about getting a touch, as long as his opponent didn't.
2, Simon Dennis - The Saints : did not like to man up, did not like to be a key player, would rather float around a get his touches that way. With that said, if his mind was made up to beat his man, a very tough player to outmark, and a smart player to go with it - Very good on his day
3, Hunt - Yank : not the most dangerous of big men, but one of the best at getting his hands on the ball in the ruck.
C'mon boys, fess up.....

I notice none of those guys played last year are you implying an easy year for yourself Jingles?
2 Hardest in no particular order for me.
Randall Follett - I think enough has been said about him but hes just such a hard running midfielder with good finishing skills and a hard body. Quite the footballer and surprising hes only won 1 Mail Medal and I only played against him when he was in his 30s so i can only imagine how good he was in his mid 20s.
Scott Brown - Best tagger ive played against. Was never too interested in the football himself but was never more than a couple of meters from you. Just a disciplined young footballer who when given a job always did it well. Hope to see him improve the attacking side of his game and develop into one of the premier midfielders of our comp.

My toughest in no particular order:
Todd Steele - Big man - considering I cant jump he was tough
Ben Thompson - Kept him to 3 once / Kicked 7 in a half another time, moved well for a big bloke
Cam Taylor - I think that was his name played down back for Willunga a few years back
Others:
Luke Ottens
Clint Godwin
Darren Twigden

Randall Follett - has proven almost impossible to take out of a game, for a vetran very stong and explosive.
Adam Carnevale - runs all day, can take a good hit, dishes out plenty of dirty ones its just his disposal that lets him down and prop prevented him from cracking SANFL.

Dont reckon Braddles was playing when the Fitzroy champ was, may have crossed over by one year in which case i'm mistaken. I reckon the best wingman playing when the "real" MC was playing would have been Robbie Flower.

You are spot on, Robbie Flower used to kick my arse!!!!
But in the GSFL, there wasn't too many guys that could get the better of Micky.
One guy that flogs me every single time is Victor bad boy Kymie White. He is strong, powerfull and a great ball winner.
I have all other on-ballers measures, and will have Whites measure next year aswell, if he is game enough to stand the all mighty Micky Conlan.... Bring it on Kymie!!!!!

Kym white was a very good player. Still could be!
theres been alot of good players over th years but im surprised no one has mentioned Julian Far kas.A great mark and could always kick a bullshit goal.
Damien Willis has been a great player for Yank over a number of years.

I remember **** kicking 11 one day at Willunga against Goolwa (not the best opposition but 11 goals is a good effort). From memory he took about 3 or 4 classic marks. There's a bloke who could play. Maybe we should start a 'where are they now thread'

Julian Far kas is in Canberra.
Has been playing for Eastlake, up forward and on the wing. Has been Eastlakes leading goalkicker nearly every year up there. Kicked 80 odd a couple of years back. Has made the Canberra Team of the year a couple of times aswell.
He was an unbelievable player, just so skillful and a great mark for his height. A tough match up and left/right sided. Definitely a big influence on the current midfielders at Willunga like Carnevale and Baxter.
Quality player and great bloke.

Spot on about the match up side of things BJ. You had to put a quick, agile half back type on him, then he'd kill you in the air. But if you put someone a bit bigger in size on him he'd run them around.

THE INTERROGATION ROOM- with Reporter Roy Rogers
Week 12 - Julian Far kas
As Eastlake Football Club embarks on the 2007 final series in which every game is ‘Do or Die’, retiring 1,000,000 game veteran, Julian Far kas, is preparing to make sure that his last game is played in the last week of September on Grand Final day. So who better to reveal how Julian Far kas is feeling as he approaches the end of a long and distinguished career with the Eastlake Football Club than Reporter Roy Rogers in the INTERROGATION ROOM.
RR; Jules, Can I call you Jules?
JF; Yes.
RR; Julian, firstly, let me say what an honour it is to interview a man that has achieved as much on and off the football field. Many people have noticed your on-field achievements such as leading goal kicker for Eastlake for many years, multiple appearances for ACT representative team, as well as a SANFL career in your early South Australian days. But off-field you are also an Eastlake FC Assistant Coach, you continue to successfully develop the youth of the Eastlake Football Club as the Junior Development Manager, all while managing to maintain a wonderful relationship with a beautiful wife. Tell the men of Australia your secret!
JF; Wow… I do sound pretty good don’t I! I do have to prioritise my time on occasion, but it is easy finding time to do things you enjoy.
RR; You have made the decision to retire at the end of this year, was this a hard decision to make?
JF; Absolutely not. It is a combination of my body becoming more fragile and gradually losing the mental drive and motivation. I have been playing for many years and am tired. I have listened to the interviews of James Hird, Nathan Brown, Glen Archer over the past few weeks and can relate to a lot of reasons why they are hanging the boots up as well.
RR; You are obviously willing to give ‘your forward-line’ to my good friend Aaron Rogers then?
JF; The forward line is all Aaron Rogers’… he can take control and invite whoever he likes.
RR; Other than Aaron, who can you look back on after all these years and say- ‘he had the biggest influence on my career’?
JF; Probably my old man who has never played a game but is an astute student of the game. Also, I think Nathan Clarke has definitely played a big role later on in my career.
RR; We all know that I love a good nickname. I have always said that a man’s popularity should be judged by the amount of nicknames he has. So when I hear people calling you Pop, Guliarn, Wizard, Gonzo, Farquar and Terrorist, I can only imagine how well respected you are around the club. Do you have a favourite?
JF; I was nicknamed ‘Wizard’ not because I was a magician on the field, but for the fact that when I was 18, I managed to make a six pack of beer disappear… and then reappear rather quickly.

The whole experience of getting married (traveled for 2 months for the honeymoon)
4 Life’s most embarrassing moment thus far
In 2002, I had severe Osteitis Pubis. It was coming into finals time so I was playing with a pain killing injection. You can imagine the discomfort of a needle to the Pubic region. The doctor suggested I use a special cream that helped numb the area for the next game so the needle wasn’t so uncomfortable. As I went into the doctor’s surgery to have the needle, I noticed a rather nice looking girl waiting in reception. So as I waited for the doctor I strutted around in front of her like a stallion in a mounting yard and thought I was getting somewhere. The doctor came out and said loud and clear so everyone in the reception could hear, ‘Hi Julian, I will be with you in a minute. Did you use that cream?’ while pointing to his groinal region. Killed me…!

THE INTERROGATION ROOM- with Reporter Roy Rogers would like thank Julian **** for the many years of loyal service on and off the field to the Eastlake Football Club. He will be sorely missed on and off the field but we wish him all the very best as he embarks on a new chapter in his life- Life as a past player
