I think generally most of the local players get right behind the recruits as long as they stay for a piss up here and there and dont have a bad attitude. I think the problem more comes from the committee level. They hold the recruits accountable for the losses for sure. There are a few including beaver, baters, henschke, smith boys, Staniford (top lad and player) that are quality but after that you are just making up numbers. (sorry if I missed some poeple). They need to focus on getting all there good local lads back and keeping current ones (especially beaver) and then look at recruiting younger lads (18-25) just out of the SANFL system that they can groom and keep around for a while. Importantly the locals need to get right behind them and make them feel welcome. A big sponsorwhip drive to fix the facilities up wouldn't go astray either, pretty difficult recruiting blokes to play there every second week. End rant......

well said Boozehound, finally a sensible post into bridgewater's recruiting problem.

sick of hearing the banter between Ballhog & Newman

Totally Agree Toot Toot. Bridgewaters problems as most people know are pretty dire and they are struggling for direction at the moment. It remains to be seen if they go back to div 2 (sorry country division) and be more competitive or they group together and stick it out in central. I do hear that Ganey has applied for the job as coach and I think he would do a pretty good job at galvanising the boys and getting them to play pretty hard accountable footy.

Newmann and Ballhog, the time for pettiness is over, if your unhappy with the club and want to sledge each other do it by email!

Long time viewer, first time poster. Thought it was about time I got involved. Moving forward to next season, and although only early, how are things shaping up?
Second year of Points System. Would have thought emphasis now being placed on recruiting the right players i.e. those that will stick around. Am suggesting will see more recruiting from SAAFL and other country leagues as opposed to SANFL given the difference in points 4/5 v 3. Especially for clubs at the top. From what I’ve heard so far:
Mt Lofty - to drop back slightly next season? Although thought the same would happen in 08. Cutting a big loss. Captain and Local so not easily replaced given points system.
Blackwood – Have head will lose a few such as Bowen plus a few that are getting a bit fed up with things at Windy Hill. Maybe Roach too?
Magpies - unknown at this stage haven’t heard of any losses.
Mt Barker – Same as Magpies, unsure?
Uraidla - Surely to go out and try and get another ex North Adelaide Player? Andersen back will help.
Onkas - new coach. Klun to return?
Ironbank – have only heard of people leaving at this stage i.e. Muffy although not sure how true any of this info is.
Birdwood. Krieg to help and can see them improving again, but going to need another 3 of Kreigs quality to push for finals. Not sure they can bring in that many given the points system.
Bridgewater – Last seasons recruits on the move again?
Lobethal – Are Nitchke and Bratton returning? Both former juniors so no points. May bring some mates as well. Would be good to see the tigers improve. On the positive, only way is up.

I totally agree with Boozehound as well Toot Toot, we locals do get so frustrated at times especially after ten years of being where we are and I guess we expect miracles from our imports and it's just easier to blame them. At the end of the day we all want to get the club back where it was back in the early 90's. The good thing with our club is on a Saturday night the players that come back all have a good time and we have a good core of kids comming through.

any news on who the commitee of bridgy will be next yr?? same pres, ward?? would love to see a couple of ex players take the club into a new direction.. i think if you could get the likes of dyl wiles, wisey, bilsy etc on the commitee ud see some fast improvement. obviously they have to want to be there. but i think the presidency needs a good shake up. i know alot of players want a change, no one seems to put their hand up though..

our club (lofty) was changed around from the hard work a determined pres can do. now i know coco has trodden on a few toes but i think that is needed to run a successful club, get the people who have been sitting there for yrs watching the club slowly get closer to folding out of the way, and bring in someone who wants the club to succeed..

do bridgy have that person around??? surely someone can put their hand up..

ps good on ganey for wanting to coach, think he'll be good too..

Bridgy AGM held last night, Pres, Vice Pres, Sec & Tres all stood down. all the ex players you've noted above didn't attended. new pres is John Schneemilch who was the u/14.5's coach. his address at the meeting was quite impressive, wants to stay in central div & at bridgy, also is very keen to update the facilities sooner rather then later.

the new committee as about 13 people at last count, which includes a few people with business background which should be able to help the club out.

well good luck to them, have grown up hating bridgy but still wouldnt want to see them fold. i think the facilities is definately the first thing that needs to be done.

Speaking of bridgy, has anyone heard about a Bridgy bloke down at Sturt talking about throwing cash at some kids who may miss out on a game next year with the new SANFL u18 comp? Also has his eye on a few IB 17s who are stepping up to seniors next year...

haven't heard of anything but i hope they don't throw big $$ around at these kids. we really need some key position mid 20's blokes that are quaility footballers, people and keen to stick around for more than 1 or 2 years.

Agree with previous posts, hopefully new Bridgewater Pres can get everyone moving in the same direction. Some tough decisions will need to be made, and no doubt a few will not like it, but for the sake of club and everyone involved, it is a must. Dont think dropping to Country Div is the answer. Different set of circumstances, but Mt Lofty have proven that things can be turned around.

Bit of sad news for Mt Lofty supporters at least ... past B-grade premiership player Jimmy Gardiner passed away yesterday (Thursday). Always a character who played it hard on and off the field, Jimmy will be remembered as a great servant of the Devils, and a great bloke to have a few with ... RIP Jimmy, Scotland the Brave!!!

I'd say Onka's will have a few that may not continue or go elsewhere particularly when they get to know the new coach.
