I have played for Loxton North in a trial against Adelaide Uni and North were competitive. I would say Div 3 - Div 4 now though as Riverland has dropped away a bit to what it used to be.

When Flinder Uni won a premiership and went up to Div 6 Wunkar played them at the carnival and went down by 2-3 goals so I would say Independents would be Div 6-Div 7 standard. eg top 4 Div. 6 bottom 4 Div. 7.

Cheers for all that lads!

I went and saw a Paringa V Nth Haven game a couple of years ago. was meant to be 6 quarters, but at the end of the third Nth Haven were up by somethin like 17 goals so they made it 4 quarters instead.

Bout Div 4 div3 is not a bad comp at all

I'd say about div 3 is the standard. The top RFL clubs would go close to winning div 3. The depth is where it drops off but there are at least 4 or 5 players in every RFL team that would play div. 1 footy without a doubt, and probably more in the top sides.

Is there anyone left to play footy in Renmark? A few U/18's may be playing two games on a Saturday!

there wouldn't be 4 or 5 players from last years bottom 2 sides combined that would cut it in div 1

D. Storic, D. Brookes, P. Safralidis, G. Franks, M. Arnold, T. Arnold, J. Nelson, B. Williams, A. Cook.
Could play regular Div 1 or would be fringe div one players.
Two of those are state country players.
And at least three of those have either played Div 1 or league/reserves football.

And to add to the fact the Riverland is a strong competition is that the above list has no-one from the Premiers, runners up or 3rd place side from last year.

Agreed on all of those DW, and by my count there are about 4 others from last year's Berri team who would be in a div. 1 side or not far off it.

Not trying to compare it to div.1 as that still only makes less than half a team, but the standard is pretty good.

Give me a break NS - that means Berri had 8 players in last years team capable of Div one. I reckon you have your hand firmly on it. For a Riverland teame to have 8 div one players and not make the finals would be a disgrace. Who are the other 4 not already listed? I reckon Brookes and Franks would be struggling from the first 4 listed. Remember Peter Smith is a Div one player and not many around here can keep up with him so I reckon thats where the bar is if we are comparing.

Agree with you Slapsy.
I think Berri would be lucky to have had 8 players in the past 4-5 years who could play Div 1.

I agree with ns div 1 is not as bigger step up as you think most of renmarks team last year could easily get a game.Pete smith was a gun in div 1 he kicked more goals for gepps than what he did for loxton

Point noted Andrew but it was only a few years ago the RFL lost an interleague game to the Mallee who are way below us in standard and if our comp is as good as we think our B graders should have beaten the Mallee. I reckon on last years form only Bennet, Callahan, Jenkins would be definites and Stelzers would make it if fit for a full year. The rest would be fringe at best.

That Mallee game was at least 4 years ago with a Riverland list that you would honestly say was not the first picked. Since then it has been a different story. The RFL has tried very hard to get it's best squad on the park for Rep games since

Nick Kuhn and Dale Pedler have both played A grade Div 1 and respectfully have not played RFL Rep Footy. There would be a lot of players in this league, that many of the Div. 1 sides would pay good money for.

Plus the Mallee's first 21 is pretty competitive, with blokes like Josh Richardson, Shaun Walker, Ben Greiger, etc etc running around in it. Saturday footy way below RFL, but top few in each club are strong enough

I said they would be in it or not far off it slapsy, not that they would be guns. Brooks played div. 1 for a year and kicked 40 odd goals from the midfield, so I think he'd be right. I don't want to go through the list of the Berri blokes, but I can guarantee you there would be about 4 who would be at least fringe A graders in div. 1, and I'm thinking mainly of Goodwood, where it is pretty tough to get a game.

AV is correct too, I played against Pete Smith in div.1 and he was a gun there. One of the best players in the comp so don't use him to measure who could play there.

Don't forget either, if you get a side with 8 div. 1 players and play it against a team that has 21 div. 1 players, including some real quality up the top end, of course the div. 1 team would absolutely destroy them. I did say RFL was around the high div. 3 mark. This argument can never really be solved, but that is my opinion anyway.
