So Dutchman, would the Bluds have been disappointed in missing out on Hodges as coach given that they've already appointed Mahoney but Hodges has apparently resigned as coach of Seaton Ramblers. I believe Hodges has been linked to Jervois in the past, although it might have developed into a rumour after he took a training session there.

I'm not sure if Hodges was in the mix for the coaching job.

Mahoney is mates with him, think they work together. I know he spoke to the players last year before the GF. I think Mahoney was always the number 1 choice...its credit to the bloke really!

SFL people could argue that Mahoney and Schmidt played junior footy in SFL, but they are really from South Adelaide. Mahoney also had time at Meningie if you want to get technical.

Dutchy if you would like me to name all the players that have been at Jervois from the SFL in ths last 4 years on this post and add all the names of the ones that were approached with big bucks as well I would be happy to do so

Now you want to talk about the last 4 years? As i said there were only three SFL players on the Jervois list last year.

I think you can only include players that came from senior SFL teams to Jervois. Dont include players who played juniors at SFL clubs, went elsewhere and then came to Jervois.

Not sure what naming names will achieve, but looking at the team photos from the last few years there would only be half a dozen that came from SFL. So saying that Jervois ONLY recruits from SFL is not accurate.

Anyway, lets put this topic to rest...

heard that fielks has got the job again. was between him and smelty apparently (he must have applied at every club, other than tailem i assume).

harrowfield won by under 20 votes? and i think wait was a bit behind puckridge but not bad considering he only come out early/mid season

and yes they are all boys from the west coast steiger. fair to say imps would have struggled without them this year. very handy recruits

Demasi story is an interesting one to throw up there...

He works as a podiatrist down south and is a pretty busy bloke by the sounds of it, so the travel and time might make training out of the question. But it didnt sound like Tailem had many on the track anyway this year.

Denty coached Edwardstown and Demasi's mates from South played under Dent, even though he went to Goody Saints. Thats the only connection i can see, but thats looking from outside. Anyone else got any other links, or is it just a case of a good offer being made to a player?

Demasi could end up at Jervois with Mahoney.Geez 5 in a row would be a huge effort, not out of the question.Sams ability 2 draw players is unquestionable, that is why they have 4 flags, not taking anything away from previous coaches ability.Sounds like alot of SFL coaches are jealous of his drawing powers & worried of what players he may be targeting from their side.THRIVE FOR 5 BLOODS.

i also heard that karoonda have a heap of cash this year and that smelty is their target. he is the sort of coach who would be able to bring 5 or 6 players with him too, which is perfect for what karoonda are looking for next season. it may be their last...

I think you are right football magic, a number of coaches are worried about his ability to draw players. Never heard a Jervois player (past or present) say a bad word about the club, so its not just about Sam or the money. Uninformed people think there is an endless pot of gold at Jervois, but give no credit to the players, coaching staff and the club in general for being able to attract and build a winning culture. I'm sure other RMFL clubs cant understand how they do it. Every club in the RMFL has recruits, but no matter who comes up against Jervois they end up on the losing side.

How do the local kids go out of Jervois? Any recent SANFL or AFL players? Its always good when you are on a roll but you just need to be aware of the "Victor Harbor Syndrome". Won 8 out of 10 in the 90's but have now not made the finals for about 8 years and have basically had to re-start the club from scratch. They are not in a bad shape at present but they have done it tough.

So Jervois have basically lost no one from last year, apart from maybe Baxter.....they're probably going to get Vick, someone said some players from Yank, and who knows who the assistant coach might bring from Myponga, plus Mahoney is apparently talking to some players from Morphett Vale, so will there be 16/17 non locals in the side next year

they have still got a couple of good locals up there. hill, jarvis and and a couple young fellahs. a lot of other clubs are wary of what is going there though, thinking the same thing. when the non-locals leave, eventually, they will leave a pretty big hole to fill. and with the new points system, it will be even harder to replace them all. it will be a real pity to see this happen but much the same as meningie from a few years ago and more recently what has happened at tailem, one would imagine the fallout will be felt for longer than the premierships

C'mon GWW post something positive for once, it will make a refreshing change.

There were only 8 non locals in the squad last year, which is probably the same amount as most RMFL teams. There would be a concern if all of the non locals left, but the league would suffer as a result and the kids coming up would be playing at a lesser standard.

And to ask about SANFL and AFL players. How many have come from RMFL clubs? Dont think its fair to poke the stick at Jervois for lack of developing superstars. A couple of kids have tried their luck with Sturt.

There were a handful of kids that played regular seniors this year after playing in the under 18's last year, so its not looking all bad at Jervois in terms of development, especially for such a small town.

Was commenting on Demasi talk from another thread- South boys / Edwardstown is the probable link, but unsure if this is enough to get him to Tailem? It was pretty strong on the other thread that they are keen on him. Tailem have a bit of coin up their sleeve- wouldn't have spent much this year??

I"m only calling it as i see it. My point is they won a premiership, apparently have only lost 1 player, yet are still chasing numerous players. Fair enough point of discussion i think.

It might just be me but all the RMFL clubs have recruits right? Why is it only Jervois copping all the shit. Is it cause they have one the last 4 flags, or due to the fact that they recruit players for the right reasons. Fair enough they are all probably getting good money (not as much as most would think though). Sam and Tim have used their knowledge and not spent 600 dollars on one player but divided that over a number of good players. This surey helps when it comes to team work and getting along. Everyone of the recruits has good knowledge of each others games know each other extremely well and all get along. Isnt that something all clubs should be striving for? Also the locals love having the boys up there and no doubt learn and improve their own games. If not teach the recruits a thing or two.

I take my hat of to Sam and Tim they work hard during the week and it has paid dividends for a very small country town. Also with Sam taking over this year i wish him all the best and believe that he will do a very good job, regardless of who they pick up or lose. And on the talks of everyone moving to Jervios next year why wouldnt you? If you had the chance to play in a team that works that hard and want it would you go? Plus at this time of the year everyone is looking to change teams but eventually stay.

You always hear about the other clubs locals bickering and fighting with the recruits and at times not playing finals cause they werent going to get paid? Wat sort of recruit is that!!!
