OKO, ours isnt lookin great mate. its not the sticky deep mud that it used to be. its actually more of a slushy sandy cover but still seems quite firm underneath. and as DA sait its just the water on the surface that [pools ontop. i think weve all been spoilt by the last three yrs of dry weather footy... and i for one miss it dearly!!

Back in the 80's it was a condemable mud pit, but year after year, they pumped the sand out onto it and look at it now.

Yes DA, I can certainly remember when Uraidla Oval used to bog up after a week of heavy rain back in the 80's.

Ironbank's C Grade victory against Mt. Lofty in '86 was played in appalling conditions in pouring rain with the ground surface a bog heap.

But to Uraidla's credit over the years, they have put a lot of time & effort into getting the oval smick & it is a pleasure to play there in wet conditions these days.

Let's hope that the same effort can be put into Thunder Park and all these doomsayers can go where we would like them to go.

At least the umpires as OKO mentioned previously, think it's good enough to train on. I wounder what our illustrious League Pres mulled over when he found out that news.

Who cares anyway!!

Would have a couple showers throughout the week just to keep the surfaces schmick then come saturday she'd be 20 degrees and fine... Sure beats the hell out of 8 degrees or whatever it was in the hills last week

Mt Barker oval has another casualty. Billy Bawden got an infected toe after playing on the shocking surface of Mt Ronnie last weekend. MIssed saturdays game and could be out for another.

Well you're right there confucius, it's not looking much better now, but it was pretty schmick prior to saturday's game, in which, as already stated, Billy didnt' play, so it think it's pretty clear where the infection stemmed from.

Having said that, you've got to expect average ovals in the hills, we've just been blessed(in a footy sense) to have had some dry winters. It does annoy me though that Mt Barker, being a rapidly growing suburb where there's plenty of flat land, can't put a decent oval together. Mt Ronnie should have two teams with two decent ovals, not one team with a pig pen for a field.

If Barker are paying Brett Heinrich a lot of money, they're kidding themselves if they reckon they're a chance to win a flag in the next couple of years.

Heinrich was a local and played juniors for Barker, so surely they're not paying him a fortune.

Althoug, he is a groundskeeper, so maybe if they're paying him for those services, they should look elsewhere.

Agree Dashin, Mt Ronnie should be well capable of fielding an additional side. Maybe the Cornerstone Canaries - remember those shocking old school jumpers?

I was only stirring him boys, as far as i know he does not get paid.

If he is the groundsman he should get the arse by the looks of the oval.

Some tips for this week:

Hahndorf vs Mt Lofty- Lofty by 2 goals. Hahndorf to lead at three quarter time but get over run in the last.

Mt Barker vs Onkas- Onkas by 1 goal. Lots to play for, both sides, both know how to win in the mud as shown by 2 rounds ago. hard to call, just a feeling.

Ironbank vs Birdwood- Birdwood by a goal. Birdwood actually have more to play for. They are desperate to beat a side with some standing in the comp to gain momentum into next year, while i think Ironbank would just want this season to be over. They would be very dissapointed.

Bridgewater vs Lobethal-Bridgewater by 6 goals. At home, had a reasonable showing last week.

Blackwood vs Uraidla- Uraidla by 3 goals. Gaining momentum at the right time the demons. Blackwood actually do not have the right side to play their own oval at the moment. too big and tall.

Big round of games. Can actually see myself tipping 0/5.Great to see only one spot in the final 5 decided coming into the last round, and all the sides in the mix playing each other. There will be a mobile phone tower break down at 5 o'clock saturday night

Does anyone know the current state of Hahndorf oval?

Anyway here's my tips:

Hahndorf vs Mt Lofty- Lofty by 3 goals. Will overrun hahndorf after half time.

Mt Barker vs Onkas- Barker easily. Onkas always faulter when it counts. barker aren't playing bad footy either. Hahndorf to therefore make the 5 and could ruffle a few feathers.

Ironbank vs Birdwood- Ironbank by 6 goals

Bridgewater vs Lobethal- I hope loby can get up...but they won't. Big sunday on the piss for the boys

Blackwood vs Uraidla- Uraidla by 3 goals...could be another Cabbage v Devils GF, but it's no certainty that's for sure.
