Couldn't agree more Dizzee......Teakle has written an article that is complete and utter factless rubbish....even as a freelance journo he gets paid by The Herald to write that tripe......who the hell is the editor then, does anyone check what he is writing or what they are about to print to see if it has any basis in fact? The entire editorial staff ( if there is such a thing at that rag) should resign and have done with it.

Would be interesting to hear Red Rockets take on the story?

Heard they kicked 3 goals in the last 5 minutes to get up by a point.

Yep, that is true. Baker kicked a goal with about 10 mins to go to put Willaston up by about 15pts. Tiges kicked the next 3, 2 to Bova to get in front. Tosold had a shot after the siren from about 40-45 metres but shanked it and didn't score. Game over.
Great game with both teams in control for various periods, kicking clutches of goals. Williams should probably kicked 8 or 9, but bad kicking is bad footy!

Was only really a good game in the last term.
Willaston could have done better earlier to benefit from its early control. Some easy misses.
I reckon too many big fellas in the forward 50 early and definitely not enough crumbers around the fall of the ball throughout the match.
How Centrals got the win, I don't know. They just seemed to will themselves there.
Baker BOG by a long way, for mine - his goal late was an absolute ripper.

Is it true Willo's B grade skipper sat on the bench for the A grade all the way through? Some very disappointed Donnies supporters discussing that after the game.

The early game saw Centrals absolutely blitz the Donnies. Looked well drilled for a seconds outfit.

Looked really good in early trial games. Haven't seen him in three weeks due to injury! Possibly a calf I heard one of the players mention.

Never considered him to be a great player but if Shaun Baker wins his 3rd medal this year where would this place him as the best to have ever played in the BL&G?

With all due respect to Baker, being a really good player in a really average side for most of his career has made him a standout for Willaston when it comes to the men in white (Walton also won one for a Willaston side that finished last that year). I am not saying his medals are not deserved, as you still have to play well, but for every Mail medalist you can think of 3-4 blokes who were just as good if not better that have never won one.

Good sides have multiple good players that steal votes of each other
Some good players come close to winning them even though they miss parts of the season through injury
Some forwards don't seem to get the recognition of their deeds compared to midfielders.

Credit to Baker though, clearly leading the Donnybrooks rise back up the ladder.

Clearly Mail Medals are a measure of ability, but to say he becomes the best to have ever played in the league because of it is going a bit to far I think.

Did Leigh Matthews or Wayne Carey win 3 brownlows each?
I know they won lots of premierships, maybe thats a better indication, great players in successful teams?

In the end its all just a metter of opionion

absolute skullduggery.. baker has been a standout talent since he pulled on the boots in primary school.. great lad who gives his pound of flesh to the blg week in week out and deserves more respect than this crap.

You know you can play when your opponent gets in the best players if you only get 20 possessions.

Was that what you were talking about Pinchy?

I think he has a damn good point up the top there! And my guess is that thats not aimed at Baker.

Never said he would be classed as the best if he won a 3rd, only asking where he would rate compared alongside other players widely acknowleged as being great BLG players. I have seen a lot of BLG footy since its inception and would rate him possibly in the top 25.

The position of the club on the ladder is a tricky one, history suggests the medallist will usually come from one of the top sides that have won most of their games and get most of the 3 votes. Saying that I cant recall if Nuri had a winner during their premiership years.

A standout in an ordinary side will still only pick up 1 and 2 votes but will have few votes taken away from them.

Agree with the post about forwards not getting recognition. If I had to pick one player out of the entire comp it would be Heath Commane who is more valuable than all the numerous onballers that win the medals.
