Could anyone give us an idea of the standard out at Central division. Heard it's round Division 3 of the Amateur League, Which is quite a competitive standard

superboot,
Having never played amateur league I cant really comment.
But the last few seasons the devils have played division 2 sides in modbury, SHOC and have beatem them reasonably easily. I have also got mates that have played both hills league and div 2 and they say that hills is a better standard and say that the top hills teams would be finals contenders in div 2 and low standard in Div 1.
Having said that, you would have to say the standard would be on par with div 2.
Although I am not too suer how your current birdwoods, bridgy's or Lobey's would fair against any of the div 2 sides???

Cheers for that info, However I went and had a look at the Birdwood V Harndorf game on Saturday. Wouldn't have said it was a division 2 standard, but that could have just been that game.

Who are the top ruckmen in the Hills league? I heard that Blackwood and Hahndorf have the top two and that third would be the new guy for Bridgewater?
A mate of mine who plays at Lofty said they have a gun ruck, but talking to another bloke from another club said he was sh*t, so which is it?
Alex???

Lofty just got there ruckman back (Billy Bawden) who played last year, saturday was his second game as he'd been overseas. Let's just say he was a clear best on ground in the grand final last year. I'd say he's better than nicholas from hahndorf and the blackwood ruckman who has played a bit of league footy i believe. When Billy is fit he's like a 6'6 wingman basically, quick, agile, good hands, can really dominate a game of hills footy. I've only seen the other blokes once but they haven't proven to be very damaging. The Blackwood bloke just stands at centre half back and rearely attacks. Nicholas was good in the middle against lofty but i wouldn't say he did a great deal around the ground.

Jake Bowen from Blackwood would be the best ruckmen in the hills at the moment in my opinion, reads the play well always seems to be a kick behind the play and is very strong at ball ups around the ground, uses one hand to hold the opposing ruckmen out of the contest and just palms the ball to wherever he pleases

Probably couldn't have picked a worst game to see the standard. Watch one of the games between two of the top 7 teams and then you'll see the true standard

A major difference between Lofty and Hanhdorf is that Cooper and Kaesler would not be playing at the moment if they played for the devils as they would be rested to get their injuries right. Hahndorf will not be a contender if they continue playing their top players with chronic injuries, they'll break down before finals if not rested.

I think Hahndorf need all their big names playing to be competitive and if some are out, or playing with injury the rest of the group is not that good. Remember last year without these big names they were pretty awful you can not change the main group that quickly it will take time. I think dangermouse is right but if they rest them, they may not make the finals.

What happened last week Rooster and Gimp your first two quarters were deplorable but your third was very good?

If I could tell you that I would be earning 6 figures coaching AFL. :D

I can't actually comment as I missed the A grade, but from I heard our 3rd quarter was the best we've played since being in div 1. We've just got to try and play more of that footy and we will start pushing the higher sides and snatching a couple of unexpected victories.

Any comments on the umpiring? From what I was told it was a disgrace.

I was also told that Williams didn't do a lot and got beaten....yet made it into the best

I think that one umpire was ordinary we had him earlier and he does not pay the obvious free kicks. Although your guys were highly excited and abusing all the umps on the day. Williams was well beaten on the day by that little fella and I believe he handed back the best player reward when presented that night, so I guess he agreed.

Further on umpiring we clearly have an inconsistency that has arisen with the Southern influence The Umpire Coach and his 2IC both from Southern pay everything in town with hands in the back, chopping, etc. However the other Hills umpires are far more forgiving. On Saturday it turned into a bad joke with one paying the frees down one end and the other not paying them down the other. The players had to look to see what umpire was around before attacking the ball. I think it is important they are consistent, I suggest they put the two Southern fella’s together to make it consistent, and so I know which game not to go to.

Seen a few amateur games and reckon top Central div clubs would be more than competitive in Div 1. Would expect a team like Mt Lofty to make the top 5. The Amateurs are more even than Hills because they have so many more teams and our bottom 3 would struggle even in Div 2 and 3.

No one's chatting so i'll chat to myself.

Here's my final 5:

1) Mt Lofty - could it be a three-peat?

2) Blackwood - although the courier cup final will decide gets the first week of finals off - Devils in a close one
3) Mt Barker - will finish 3rd by the looks, can't see them doing much else than that.

4) Uraidla - Getting older and slower, can't run out a game these days

5) Hahndorf - To come good in the second half of the year and take fifth spot, if not fourth. Could have a say come finals time if they can get everyone fit.

Wouldn't be game to predict who will win the GF this year though, it's out of the top two no doubt, hahndorf is the only other side that could possible snatch a gf appearance. An open race this year, it'll be interesting to see how the next few months unfold.

I really don't think there's any chance a lofty or Blackwood would make the top 5 in Div 1. I'd love to think that were the cas but realistically i don' think it'd be the case

IB were knocked out of the elimination final last year by onkas.

Think we probably need to worry about winning a few games on the trot before we start worrying about percentage Banker...

Can't have a good game here or there and expect to shake things up!!!
