Yeah it's a good argument but one im not sure anyone would be able to put there finger on. I do recall tanunda and willaston having very strong senior colts sides. I would like to know if anyone does have some names on the list's they had. I for one would think there would have been some very handy footballers amongst them.. Maybe even an AFL player or 2..

Thats a conundrum isn't it... Lee Makris on the move..

He's usually lucky to get out of the centre square.

Agree, not the quickest and fittest bloke running around on a Saturday afternoon but have seen him dominate some games and even say that he has won games on his own for South Gawler. Would be a big (no pun intended) loss for the lions

Heres the list that played for Tanunda in both A&B grades last season that where playing senior colts through those era's.

L. Wells, R Bignell, B Richardson, J Ward, S Agars*, R Baird, T. Schiller*, A Kennedy, A Schmidt, D Waye, K Falkenberg, A Ey, S Pech, L Boehm, S Tarca, J West, L Underwood, J Oliver.

* Played a lot of footy for Centrals.

As you can see a fair few still around and I'm sure I missed one or two.

Was up at the riverland carnival last season speaking with friends in the RFL and yes, they were very pleased with the performances the lads pulled out.

Very impressive list of players there.

Not many I can think of remain from those willaston colts sides currently. The Baker Brothers and Chad Norsworthy (played mainly at centrals anyway), Dan Hendry, Josh Carter, Shannon Woods, Dan Brooks but I also may have missed a few.

Many from that era who are still playing footy (actually lots do not play anymore) have moved on previously or during the current pre season to teams such as South Gawler, Gepps Cross, Hamley Bridge, Two Wells and elsewhere.
Some folks are wise and some are otherwise.

Francis, no you don't know much.

I count no less than 12 senior footballers produced between 00 & 04 still at willaston. Get yourself a baracker from last year.

To clarify your rubbish statement here's a few that have gone over the years that i know of.

R Lee to south - occonnor got rid of him in 03 and his brother has now followed him
Buckley to two wells - was originally from there
Mcleans to Gepps Cross - better standard of competition
Mackereth, maguire, natt & pratt to hamley - easy option to try play A Grade

Willaston must be doing something right to produce senior footballers that other clubs want.

Whatever you say Pinchy. Nath Harvey also at hamley, think he will play again this year.

How are the young lads making the step up looking this year? Anyone tipped to be a standout?

Pinch Hitter... I think you have got your wires crossed here... O'Conner did not 'get rid' of Ron Lee as you have suggested. He wanted to leave the club and decided to have a kick with some old school mates at Two Wells. This also allowed Ivan 'The Kid' Silvy to return to Willaston.

You look at the difference in the list and there is no wonder why tanunda are going so well. people talk about how much money tanunda spend but the quality of youngsters they have croped is excellent. Premiership players such as L Wells, bignall, Agars, Baird, Schiller, kennedy than most of the other players named are all B grade premiership players that could have played A grade at other clubs and leagues. You put the Westhoff's in that and it's a bloody good group of playes. It's good to see such a good bunch of local footballers go through the Barossa.

tex - i think you'll find if you check your sources i am right that R Lee had a massive fallout with occonnor so he left.

Silvy's move back to willaston was a conicendence that lee was going there for 6 mths or however long. I am pretty sure ivan moved back not long after being sacked as the playing coach.

The mothers and fathers of Tanunda were doing something right between 1982-1985

PH - now you are on the right path. Ron chose to leave, Willaston did not get rid of him! Having said this i'm not sure how long he would have lasted after telling occa in no uncertain terms what he would like to do to his daughter!!!

Dead right MM, and I did forget some names such as Bluey Bartch, M Godfrey, B Groecke, B Pech who also played last year but where not in the GF sides (injury, OS & did not make it). I think you will find that the 3 Westhoff boys did not play in any of the senior colts premierships due to going up to Centrals at a young age but they certainly did play when thay had bye's at Centrals. The only one that might have played was Leigh Westhoff but I would have to check up. They certainly played in under age flags and U15's.

I see that the Leader is advertising for a Footy journo for the up coming season. Whats happened to Media Mike? I'm sure John Doe who has not been on this site for a while can fill us in.
