The Southern Leagues umpiring panel needs to look into this and deal with this umpire,as his decission making was terrible. I know umpiring week in and week out can be a thankless job , but with a performance like that it is not any wonder players and officials can become critical, as lets face it they are paid well to do a job for 2 hrs on a Saturday afternoon and it should be carried out without unbiased decission making . Generally the umpiring in the GSFL this year has been good but Saturday at Goolwa was terrible.

Who was the ump?

Who was the ump?

He was involved in football within the GSFL for a number of years before he tried his hand at umpiring. The Umpires panel know who he was and need to have a bit of a chat with him, as he also was reacting to crowd discontent that he was the main cause of.

Yes it has - read from here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=37368&start=680

The evenness of the competition has a fair bit to do with it too IMO. They still have a good list but with the guys they've lost and injuries losing games happens much more easily when the other sides aren't far behind to start with.

An example the other way - Bays list really hasn't changed that much from last year yet it took till round 12 for someone to beat them as they were playing great footy with a very few injuries.

Willunga's depth will stand them in good stead again deep in the finals.

Umpiring was horrible. Only time I've thought about it this year but result was never in doubt. I wish I got as many frees as Hoban, you can mark yourself down for 60 dream points off the bat.

But... Good news umpiring story was the young lad in the juniors. I think it might be Greg Whittlesea's lad. Controlled the game, the scuffles, the parents and coaches really well.

In other news, ebay survived a scare on the weekend after being more than 10 goals infront early in the 3rd ended up winning by 15 points after the match being within 9pts late in 4th. Welsh off in last 3-4minutes. No welsh.... no ebay premiership

Did welsh come off injured "fiftympenalty" or just taken off when the result was known?

I think it was a precautionary injury if you will. Apparently he had his arm/shoulder on ice but looked to be in no pain and maybe is just an ongoing thing theyre managing for finals. Id reckon they were saving him

To say that Yank were full strength is a laugh! But... Willunga very impressive and write them off at ur peril! They are September specialists and have plenty to offer still. I still stand by my call of a Willunga vs. Creeks GF.

No Sidebottom, DePasquale, Brazier, Hughes, King, Braendler and Francis. Far from full strength I would say. Not that it would have turned the result. Willunga for the flag at home for mine. :)

Revised odds,

Willunga $1.20
Encounter Bay $1.80
Langhornes $2.50
Strath $4.00
Victor $6.00
Goolwa $10.00

Sorry guys, after much pressure from so many posters, I have been asked to revise the odds again, that would be Willunga $1.30.

He played the first game.. Does that count?? He won the Far West Mail Medal last week by a huge margin. Quality player but got homesick so went back to Ceduna with our best wishes...

Does anyone think Strathalbyn are a chance for the flag? Going to be a huge finals series in the best comp outside SANFL.

lol - that was my point. Hardly a missing player if he left the club!

I guess we have a few outs I haven't considered too then...ie our CHB who went interstate to work after the first 10 games, or big Sam Basham who played 2 games last year and then 4B and 1A this year when back visiting...or Sam Harvey who kicked 18 goals for us then left when dropped, or Nugget Saunders who managed to get 2 games out of his 80yr old body this year, or James Harris who played 4 games early this yr.

I'm going to be in the GSFL area this weekend and are keen to watch a game of footy.
Which game would be the one to see.
Staying at Goolwa for the weekend - but happy to travel.

What coaches are likely to depart at the end of the season? Surely Sambo is in the gun.

I'd have to agree. Some outstanding players but more than a few 'passable' players
